McIntosh -- good for show, not for sound, says dealer
My experience is that McIntosh makes some great sounding, relatively high value products, and some that are mediocre and overpriced "lifestyle" products.  I really liked my MC452.  Direct coupled MA352 not so much.   MHA100 went back in the box wi...
MSB DAC's Popularity
@tomic601 "$2k-$5k DAC of the month club..." you are right! Said DAC is also authoritatively proclaimed to be the killer of all giants 2x, 5x, 10x greater in price while direct experience need not apply. Is it still the Holo May as of now?
Worth it to add streamer to Hegel H390
I didn’t think onboard streamer and DAC were on par with the quality of the pre/amp when I had the H390. I think the streamer is on a level with some costing a few hundred bucks, like the Allo USBridge Sig I had, and the DAC maybe $1k-ish. Using a...
DCS Debussy linked to a Lumin T-1 streamer and Esoteric X-03 Cd Player
I have a dCS Paganini DAC fed by a Network Bridge.  I bought a Lumin X1 to replace two boxes with one but preferred the sound of the dCS and kept it.  IIRC, Lumin was more detailed with larger soundstage (it was massive!) but tonally the dCS was m...
dCS Bartok DAC - Interesting Video Review
Sounds like a matter of taste and maybe synergy.  It also looks like he's using a desktop setup(?) which is not exactly the best way to let the product shine.  He touched upon it but one of the things I love about dCS DACs is the ability to unrave...
Looking for a SS integrated Amplifier recommendation going into a new system
What is your budget and do you already have a very good source to match the amp?  Boulder 866 with streamer and DAC is a tremendous value given the level of performance if you need digital source.
Preamp thoughts- Conrad Johnson ET7 S2 V McIntosh C2600
@rooze I’ve been running the L3000 MkII with a new-to-me Luxman M800a power amp for a week and it is easily the best sound I’ve achieved in my system. I tried running my dCS Paganini DAC directly to the Luxman and a significant amount of the magic...
Pass Labs XA25 without preamp (from a variable output source) vs INT25
I did DAC With digital volume control direct to XA25 and enjoyed it a lot.  But adding a tube preamp did bring more lively and saturated tone and 3D space.
So I just bought a Hegel H390 and
H390 is a very even handed sounding amp with plenty of drive and should pair well with almost anything.  I used it with Joseph Audio Perspectives and it was excellent.
Mcintosh amp stock pwr cord only 4 ft???
McIntosh apologies for not knowing your personal intended application. 4 feet isn't unreasonably short.  It's a cheap, generic power cord, get a longer one if you need it.
Boulder 866 Digital vs McIntosh MA12000
I have an MC452, which I like a lot, but I also have a Boulder 866 and it is a considerably more refined and nuanced sound with much greater space, dynamics, and speed.  I think the Boulder sounds a bit warm, dealer thinks it's very neutral, but w...
"warm" solid state integrated amplifier
Agree with jjss49, Luxman is not warm, especially class AB.  Quite neutral, smooth, a bit sweet, but not warm.  I would say McIntosh (w/autoformers), Pass, maybe Hegel H390/590 and Accuphase.  Haven't heard Ayre and new Krell, but those are often ...
Preamp thoughts- Conrad Johnson ET7 S2 V McIntosh C2600
@rooze You've sparked my interest in Allnic, so I just pulled the trigger on an L-3000 MkII to get my feet wet.

Interesting--thanks for the update.

@rooze What did you end up going with?  I've found myself in the same boat.  ~$6k used budget and I also owned a CT5 that I really liked and it paired superbly with the Luxman M800a, which I have incoming, when I heard the combo 12 years ago.  So...
