Pass Labs XP-30 vs Krell Evo 202
Hey Jafant, it’s all a mess right now. :) I use a Mytek Brooklyn, Parasound P7, ICEPower Amps with custom speakers. Parts similar to Gryphon stand mounts. The Mytek sounds slightly better direct than through the P7, but I need the P7's multichanne...
Pass Labs XP-30 vs Krell Evo 202
Nothing really in a long time has been all that for me. When I last really got excited about a preamp it was a CJ premiere, and a Sonic Frontiers. Recently, sounding "really good" but not necessarily OMG!! I really liked the sound of the recent AR...
Tube Pre+ Transistor Power will burn your power Amp. easily?
@response34 That IS interesting. Since the caps pass AC, it’s possible a very high voltage ( >> 30V) turn on thump could occur. However, honestly that would damage the amp even if off. It would most likely break through most electrolytic cou...
Tube Pre+ Transistor Power will burn your power Amp. easily?
LIttle more:Not all tube pre's have this minimal risk. For instance, if the output is transformer coupled, or balanced. Most tube pre's are single ended. If you truly have a vintage pre-amp (before 1980's) then you absolutely owe it to yourself to...
Tube Pre+ Transistor Power will burn your power Amp. easily?
Not true, so long as the Tube pre is working correctly. However, there IS a failure mode which will cause this. Tube pre's have hundreds of volts of DC offset. This usually stays inside the pre-amp thanks to an output coupling cap.  I quoteth myse...

I've heard the Pass XP 30 and. ... well.... um. It was fine.  It was just fine. I was not moved to tears or anything. Best,E
Legacy focus polyfill
Call them? :) THey'd probably help you out. You can still use stuffing with ported speakers. Maybe not as tightly and leaving space around port entrance.

@alpha_gt Exactly the kind of things I was thinking of. Maybe someday when I join the plutocracy  I'll be able to do that. Best,E
Straightening Bent Fins
Depends on how thick it is! Thicker = more likely to break. Use something like the Sears Robo Grip pliers which will give you the most control and leverage. Use a towel or similar in between the pliers and fins to protect finish.Instead of trying ...

Yep, at least one Stereophile reviewer has no room treatments at all, and constantly bemoans the poor bass response in his room, but that's how he reviews $100k+ speakers. Best,E
Good Speakers with Pass XA30.5 Power Amp?
As far as you can!! :) Point is to get away from all the reflections and just listen to the speakers themselves. This will give you an audible delta, especially in terms of imaging, and mid-treble.
Good Speakers with Pass XA30.5 Power Amp?
First, do my 2' listening test. Bring the speakers out into the room and sit about 2' away. This will reveal the actual tonality of the speakers. The difference between that and your normal experience is room acoustics. Best,E

@nrenter Thanks !! Of course, this is far beyond where I meant to go. I hope however that more audiophiles experiment with room acoustics which can be done for nearly zero cost. I think any who haven't yet done so in their audio education could be...
Have you ever tried a pair of speakers and said this Is the last thing I will ever need.
Some days it doesn't pay to go out without your waders on.

Interesting. In that environment, a bi-polar line array may actually be the best you can get. Still, yeah, not where I'd put my best gear.
