Class D = Trash?
Well, again, not a big deal, but this from a review on the Krell FBP: The output stage in all FPB amplifiers employs a free-floating feedback arrangement wherein ultra-fast regulators independently monitor the output stage and respond to the small...
Class D is just Dandy!
I should say that in the mid-80’s I did get to listen to early Class D amplifier from one of our vendors. It was not then up to snuff, especially not with metal dome compression drivers. :) Best,E

Hy Roxy,I never did. My experience in the pro world was in motion picture auditoriums. At the time my employer bought Hafler amplifier modules, attached their own supplies, and their own surround processing. We probably kept Hafler in business a l...
Class D = Trash?
@h2oaudio - Since I'm not that big a Krell fanboy, it is VERY likely I got the models/series wrong. :) I only wanted to point interested parties to examples. I am going to start another thread I think, for people who LIKE class D. :) Best,E
Class D = Trash?
One interesting experiment I read about I've wanted to try is to actually LISTEN to the amplifier power supply lines. The + and - supplies are, in theory, at fixed DC voltages but as the music plays, the current draw will cause the supplies to sag...
Class D = Trash?
The points  @h2oaudio makes about regulated vs. unregulated are pretty much true. VERY few analog amps are regulated at all. Krell did this with the FPB I believe. Sanders's Magtech is what I would call semi-regulated. Brilliant compromise. Doing ...
Integrateds, which one??????????????
How about the Parasound? It's a very clean, grainless, modern sounding amp section with a fairly musical DAC built in? I also really like the Arcam, find their sound more quiet, subdued like the Ayre amps.

Thanks for your kind words, Todd. It's hard to be level when so many forces on this site want you to be extreme. :) Best,E
Let's talk Tweeters!
Feedback is good! I am sorry if this is coming off as heavy handed. I have seen a number of good threads devolve into "my brand X is much better than your brand Y" or "you aren't getting 4D sound..." So long as we can avoid that, all participation...

@prof Maybe I missed it, but in your original posting there was nothing about the technology. I only saw subjective opinions. Also, no reason why you can’t mention it in comparison, in fact I would like you to. :) Let’s talk materials, operating p...
Let's talk Tweeters!
Gents,I agree, it's impossible not to discuss brands entirely, especially when a technology is entirely proprietary like MBL seems to.I would like to focus on the technology and trade-offs. The post by @prof reads identical to an MBL speaker revie...
Class D = Trash?
Bass and amps is a funny, funny thing. Some speakers are hard to drive in the bass and sometimes that is malicious. A speaker that requires a particularly beefy amp is called "discerning" and sold at twice the price it would be otherwise. :) Some ...
Harvard U. article on hearing loss research
I'm glad so many found this so interesting, I was genuinely worried the moderators would consider it too far off-topic. :) Best,E
How would you get into the biz?
Thanks for all the input everyone, I am still reading, just in lurk mode as I learn more and more. :) Best,E
Let's talk Tweeters!
@prof I’m glad you found a commercial speaker brand you like, but I need this thread to avoid devolving into brand flame wars. To avoid this in the future please:Stay focused on tweeters and their manufacturers (when known)Discuss the technology, ...
