What are the more subtle sounding tube preamps?
Huh? Earlier ARC’s were way too analytic and cold for me. Newer ARC is much warmer to my ears. Personally I the new ARC sound for being less clinical and tons warmer, without being as euphonic as the earlier CJ's. I haven't actually heard modern C...
Acoustic treatment for side glass doors / please, need ideas.
Jorsan,Again, from an overall acoustics balance, they are awesome. They will reduce resonance modes, and allow better room/speaker/woofer integration, which will make everything sound in better balance, and improve the perceived signal to noise by...
ARC REF 75SE uses 20amp cable - Can I use my 15amp cable and just buy 20amp IEC connector
You know, another choice _might_ be to change the plug in the ARC unit instead. Especially if it uses spades internally, you wouldn't need much more than a screwdriver to replace it. Best,Erik

Jorsan,I think  papafrog is being a little imprecise, but he's not overall wrong. Personally I like GIK acoustics soffit traps for cost/value.We focus a lot on direct reflections, but reducing the resonance time across the frequency bands can be a...
Is there any advantage to lower efficiency speakers? 87 or below?
@audioconnection I make loudspeakers. I don't think it's an unfair question to ask why some speakers tend to have low efficiency, or how equipment may make some trade offs. I also don't think efficiency is necessarily a quality standard. You shoul...
Which one of these is the best 10" full-range coaxial speaker?
99% of speaker discussions on Audiogon are for residential, pre-made speakers. 99% of the discussions on DIY are about speaker drivers and components.
Which one of these is the best 10" full-range coaxial speaker?
Oh, you can ask anywhere you'd like, I don't own Audiogon. It is also easier to talk tech at DIY since you can upload schematics, pictures and design data. Best,Erik

Jtay,Please do not apologize. :) I didn’t mean you were not welcome. I meant, you’ll find a lot more speaker making geeks over at DIY forums who will have a lot of ideas for you there, than in Audiogon. :) You are always welcome as far as I am con...

Hi Jtay,You are in the wrong place. :) Go over to the DIY audio forums where you'll find lots of speaker designers. It's also nice because you can upload pictures, schematics, etc in discussions: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/Best,E

Hi Puff,It’s not really desirable, but a speaker designer may end up getting there in order to get enough bass. It’s a little complicated to explain in text, but we can often sacrifice sensitivity for the sake of bass extension. Another way to loo...

Just double check your fuse size. According to the online spec it should be a 5A slow-blow. Best,E
ARC REF 75SE uses 20amp cable - Can I use my 15amp cable and just buy 20amp IEC connector
Based on the ARC's listed power requirements of 500 W maximum, I would say yes, certainly. The cutoff for 15A is 1,800 W. Best,E

Not on the doors, but anywhere else. :) Again, I really like black out courtains. When shopping, a neat trick is to put your ear next to the curtain. Not ON it, but next to it, you'll get a good idea of how absorbent they are. Also, remember, defi...
Most Beautiful Receiver / Integrated - Ever was... ?
I do like the way Primare and other modern systems look. Any idea how they sound?
Using Klipsch Heresy 3 as rear channel?
Hi Brian,If the speakers are below your ears, bullets, fly-by's, etc. will seem to be coming from beneath your head.  Ideally your L and R speakers are next to instead of below your main screen as well. However, I think that ear level is just grea...
