Amps from the 1980's -- What gear holds up sonically? Reliably?
Hi 213!For many of us who have been in the hobby for a long time these threads are ways of us sharing our experiences over time and connecting with other long-time hobbyists. A trip down memory lane if you will. This is also a good way to talk tre...
Looking to upgrade amp, need help.
So, like several Focal speakers, the 836 V excel in having a low impedance around the worst locations in the bass (100Hz). It is practically their trademark. See here:http://audio.com.pl/testy/stereo/zespoly-glosnikowe/284-focal-chorus-836vThis ac...

Amps from the 1980's -- What gear holds up sonically? Reliably?
Well, this is interesting, I don’t know which is right, but this article claims the first series of the Nak amps were better? http://www.tonepublications.com/old-school/nakamichi-pa-7-amplifier/Per other threads, the original PA-7 was pure class A...

Amp/Preamp or AVR for home stereo and entertainment
Sam,On the low end, I recommend Furman with SMP and LiFT. Really good bargains for the noise they remove. Shop around and you can get them for real discounts. After this, PS Audio has a nice range. Best,E

JA also did a particularly bad review of the Crystal Cable Minissimo. In addition to just half- .... er, phoning in the review, he ignores the manufacturers recommendation for placement, ignores his own measurements which show that his alternative...

@prof JA is a funny guy. He’ll call one speaker deliberately altered which isn’t, but others with demonstrated treble issues "neutral" It’s more complicated than merely more treble. The Stereophile involves not only exaggerated treble but also a c...
Sonic Frontiers Line 2, Heaven or Hell?
CJ from that period will be a lot warmer, and juicier too. :) E

@ctsooner That is what I call the "Stereophile" curve, or speakers for the hearing impaired. JA also did a hatchet job on the Crystal minissimo, with aspersions not in evidence. He's just not someone I trust. Best,E
Bose 901 Series ii
I strongly recommend you think about a good integrated then. How about Parasound? Lots of inputs, a very nice built-in DAC, and plenty of power.
Equalizer with a Halo P5?
But I should also point out, you really don't want the room correction on when you are listening via headphones. :) Best,E
Equalizer with a Halo P5?
Ahhh, wrong combination of EQ and preamp I'm afraid. The P5 doesn't have a tape/eq/processor loop (P7 does). And the EQ is a 2 channel, without a sub output. If you had an EQ with more outputs, or a pre with a tape loop you could do what you want....

JA is a funny guy, and one I blame for the modern "Stereophile" curve being pursued by so many speaker makers. Even if he's right about a speaker, he's so biased so often I no longer feel his objective reviews are worth reading.
