Class D is just Dandy!
Delta Sigma processing = digital. :) Most Class D amps are not digital. Weird. :) Best,E
Class D is just Dandy!
Hi Everyone,Just FYI, Mytek has just posted info on their Class D amp to their web site. The Mytek Amp fits perfectly under a Brooklyn DAC for a little under $2k. Order with the Brooklyn DAC and you get a $500 package discount ($3500 or so) which i...
DAC with Home theater bypass
Ahhh, so really we are talking DACs with built in preamps. :) Not sure if the Myteks will do this conveniently. Best,E
16 bit is good enough.....
Um, my experiences have not in general been related to FPGA DAC's. I honestly haven't heard that many that I know of. My current bargain favorite is the Mytek Brooklyn. :) Not FPGA based. Also really like the Schiit designs. Anyone who would like t...
Mark Levinson has odd choice for cap upgrades in one of their service bulletins. Why?
Hi Gnerator: Yes, you are overthinking it. :) These are probably PS de-coupling caps, and size and heat resistance are most likely the dominant factors. The location matters. It is quite possible that those caps are exposed to unusually high ...

Thanks for that link 2Channel! Interesting it uses Hypex modules. :) Best,E
Most Beautiful Receiver / Integrated - Ever was... ?
Hi 2Channel8,I will leave that to a turntable person, which I am not. :) I don't think you have to be well known to start a fun thread, just do it in the spirit of engaging rather than criticizing and I think you'll succeed.Find a key aspect about...

The answer indeed seems to be heat, but it’s also important to understand the application. 0.01uF adds microscopic amounts of capacitance, so I assume they are merely RF filtering, power supply decoupling caps. Ceramics should be fine. Best,E
DAC with Home theater bypass
I've not heard of this being a common feature in a DAC. Are you sure you don't mean a preamp or integrated? That feature is relatively more common there. The Parasound P7 has multi-channel inputs, so you can run a processor or DVD/BluRay player th...
16 bit is good enough.....
Hi Nonoise,As I've said before, the newest crop of DAC's in the lat 5 years are MUCH better with Redbook than they were before. So much so that it makes it difficult for me to justify the disk space needed for high resolution files, especially DSD...

George, WHICH Tandberg series though, there were 3 that I know of. The svelte black and chrome line is what I fell in love with. Best,E
Looking for input: Best material for mid range cone
In terms of completed design, I'm a big fan of composite construction. This includes the Focal W sandwiches, rohacell, carbon fiber laminates, and the cut paper designs used by ScanSpeak (my personal faves). There's also some newer designs I'm cur...
Upgrading amplifiera.
Kalali, I was trying to be humorous, but you essentially have tubes, caps, and resistors in the signal pathway. And there is practically no upper limit to how much you can spend on the caps. :) Best,E
how much power can a speaker handle?
Short term, recoverable effects:Severe compression and distortion. This can happen as the signal approaches the physical limits of the drivers, without permanent damage. Voice coil overheating can also cause compression effects over longer periods...
Is there any advantage to lower efficiency speakers? 87 or below?
I forgot, unsound is right. :)Very high sensitivity speakers (100dB+) often need very quiet amps to prevent the idle amp noise from becoming noticeable. However I don't know if a single speaker designer who says "Oh, I'm going to hear too much nois...
