Power supply VA rating and how much is really needed VA = AC watts. This is really the upper limit of what the power supply can deliver. However, the actual wattage spent is the power consumed by the speaker divided by some efficiency factor. So200 Watts at the speaker / .6 = 266 VA continuous requi...
Power supply VA rating and how much is really needed Is 300VA-400VA per channel enough? Will less be detrimental to performance and SQ? Is more always better? That's about 300-400 Watts per channel. Simultaneously. That's quite a bit. What are ideal specs for a multichannel ( or stereo amplifier )...
Holo's new R2R KTE Spring-2 Dac The usb module has all the code completely rewritten custom and improved with low latency performance. Well, that makes me nervous! Being in IT, re-writing code from others that is working already is expensive. It's not just the writing but the h...
Carver sunfire signature / Sanders Magtech I haven’t heard the Magtech, only the previous generation with the InnerSound brand. My impression then was they were very revealing, with impressive dynamic range and impossible to perturb. Quiet and ran stone cold. On the other hand, I found no ...
Clean Power without the drawbacks of Conditioning Filtering. Advice? Furman wiht SMP and LiFT has the most protection and lowest amount of interference. House wide surge suppressors are a good idea, but they do nothing for noise.
any speakers using all Scanspeak Classic drivers? Not sure about classic, but Sony produced at least one speaker using only Illuminator, and the B&O monstrosity as well. Wilson often uses Scanspeak mids and woofers, but not tweets. Magico uses their tweeter motors with custom diaphragms. Also...
Need help with cable termination! I had really terrible luck with Furutech. The plug material itself deforms easily and is a tad too small. With Focal speakers I never got a tight fit. Instead I recommend WBT. use the sleeves method. Available from Parts Connexion. Best,E
Calling all conrad johnson afficianos .... Just wanted to add, I do believe that the classic CJ preamps have too high of a sensitivity. In some cases this is an easy mod by an experienced tube tech. You'll definitely get less noise out of them. Best,E
Felt diffraction reduction advise I have a question. If the creator of the speaker thought it needed felt, wouldn’t he or she have included it? It’s cheap and easy to apply. Or would it be added to change the highs in a unique situation? Of course, and some do, some don't. I th...
Does impedance of a speaker change when one bi-amps? When I tried to run my ESLs off a high quality integrated I learned a lot. For instance the rated power is only deliverable into a resistive load. Anything reactive shut the amp down and a message came up "check for shorted speaker wires" Th...
Felt diffraction reduction advise Vandersteen's is deep enough to act like a bit of a waveguide. And yes, it does help. The felt seems to reduce re-radiation directly around the tweeter enhancing the speaker's disappearing act.
Luxman Class A Integrated Slight Buzzing Noise Well, yes and no. *Some* hum is caused by a ground loop, and *some* hum is caused by DC on the line, and both of these are cured fairly easily. You missed the key adjective. "Mechanical". This means that something in the equipment is physicall...
Calling all conrad johnson afficianos .... Those are two separate questions. 1 - Gain - As far as I know it's historical and goes back to the days when you might really need it from a tuner or tape or turntable. 2 - Impedance - Cost and simplicity. The single tube / channel CJ preamps are ...
DAC's : The missing feature: Signal quality Hey Steve! I saw your purifier on your web site. One thing that caught my eye was incompatability with XMOS based inputs. Is this because they require a +5 V input?
Felt diffraction reduction advise Even craft felt works, but Madisound also sells some pre-cut. |
