Monitor Audio RX8 vs older Gold GR 60's
Unless you are desperate for more and louder bass, stick with what you have. They are fine fine speakers. The platinum series though, if you could find THAT on sale.:) That would be worth the upgrade. Best,E
External DAC connection
You really should just use the HDMI into your receiver, but if you are curious, you can usually use your TV to de-embed. Run HDMI into it, and then use the optical digital output to your benchmark.
Which DAC: Benchmark, Mytek, Audio Mirror, Holo Audio, Mojo Audio?
The Mytek Brooklyn is the closest to the Liberty I have heard. What I've written about a great deal here is how good it sounds with Redbook. Before this generation of DAC's (which I aslo include Schiit) there was a really wide performance differen...
A problem with AC Power you may not have considered.
@ptss - I cannot tell you if you will hear a difference, but in my mind there’s very few technologies in audio power conditioning well documented:Series mode surge suppressionBalanced powerActive power regeneration (PS Audio)Power regulation Activ...
AV7704 Audyssey
jim is right, but also, if you have different types of speakers. In multi-way speakers, designers will often flip a driver relative to others to achieve correct phase relationships. So if you are using mixed brands of speakers I could see this hap...

The Furman Ref20 is a great piece of kit. As the OP mentioned, very high frequencies can go right through a transformer, while the transformer tends to filter out very low frequency noise (100s to low 10kHz)However, the Furman includes SMP filteri...
Satellites have max 20 watts transmit!
TBF, antennas are often described as "high gain" so I’m not sure Geoff was speaking purely about active amplification. With up to 70m wide dishes, I’m sure those antennas are of extremely high gain, not to mention the digital signal processing and...
Preamp advice needed.
Usually for ESL's I recommend tube pre and stiff solid state amplifier. Your mileage may vary, but you can get tube warmth, along with high frequency extension this way.Of course, there are exceptions,, and some tubes may work very well with this ...
Just getting started on a budget and need bookshelf speakers/receiver now

Lowering House Grounding Impedance
To be clear, you are not allowed to willy nilly use a random new ground. You may add ground rods, but all must be bonded together. This ground should be bonded to the neutral at exactly one place: The service entrance. Anything else is a life safe...

You should look into series mode suppressors. Being low pass filters, they start around 3 kHz.
Could I be a Retail Wretch?
There is the widely shared rule: Don’t take something without giving something of equal value in returnIf you visit a dealer, and take his time, and profit from it (knowledge is profit) with the goal of then taking that profit and using it to furt...
Fixing your cable problems forever.
No purchase will ever give you the learning and self improvement building will. So keep that in mind. Next, retail markup on speaker drivers is 10:1 or more! So if you spend $200 on drivers,  you would have to sell the speakers for $2k to stay in ...
The Future of Audio Amplification
There are "top end" amps in A, AB and D, have been for quite a while. Not sure I understand why that would make anyone unhappy. I think it's pretty cool, both from a vintage point of view and newer designs. Agreed.I think a large part of this i...
