DAC's : The missing feature: Signal quality
All DAC's attempt to isolate themselves from jitter, ground loop and noise and do so with relatively different levels of success. I think given the drop in processing power, cost of excellent clocks and DAC chips, maybe this can take over after ev...

FTR: Wilson used not only Focal, but also a lot of Scanspeak. Some of the most expensive commercial speakers I know of use Scanspeak including B&O, Wilson, and Gryphon. Magico uses Scanspeak tweeter motors with custom diaphragms. Fritz uses a ...
DAC's : The missing feature: Signal quality
thank you @astewart8944 - Like I was thinking, maybe this is better as an external gadget. To put this another way, most of us have no way to tell if a digital source is very poor, mediocre, or great. I'd like a little gadget that could tell me. B...
What are fuses used for?
Could a fuse make a difference? I doubt it, but there's good ways to tell. Put an oscilloscope on both ends of a fuse, ideally something with a frequency analyzier. Look at the scope. When anyone provides visible proof of a fuse in anyway showing ...

How about a Raspberry Pi? :) Hook it up with Volumio, and presto. https://volumio.org/

Alternatively, maybe this should be a gadget? Why am I telling you guys all my best ideas ? Best,E
DAC's : The missing feature: Signal quality
@celander Exactly. To answer the question about what we would use externally, jitter, noise and distortion measurements. I don't think we need to have all that test gear in place though. For instance, there's circuitry which is making choices abou...
DAC's : The missing feature: Signal quality
Look at it another way. We spend a lot of tiem money and effort looking for things to fix. Wouldn't it be good to have a dac that turns red if a particular source is no longer performing well?I mean, if we hear something change, we often look for ...
DAC's : The missing feature: Signal quality
The reason this is not common as it’s not really needed. No one has any idea if this is needed or not because end users never get to measure it themselves. The argument here is really that unless it's blatantly obvious to the ear we should not c...
Soldered VS ...everything else
As alluded to above solder comes in many alloy formulations. The good old wire looped into a screw down terminal alleviates one connection point.Silver and silver oxides conduct better than gold. And none of it is as good as a cold weld for current.

If you are going to interject your own agenda without actually addressing the original post it is considered polite to start your own thread.

In all things, buy what you personally like. Pay money to make your family and yourself happy, not reviewers and not me. I will say that hearing things for yourself is critical. My goal in life is not to buy $3,000 bottle of wine. It is to spend $...
Setting up 2 power amplifiers to setup at once help?
You may use a receiver as a pre if it has line level outputs.Under no circumstances should you hook up two amplifiers to the same speaker at the same time except in the rare case of bridging, which you are not doing. Each amp has an "opinion" of w...
Why does my DAC sound so much better after upgrading digital SPDIF cable?
1. The power of suggestion2. Noise - One cable may be better at rejecting noise than another3. You had a dirty plug and this cleaned it out4. Better impedance matching. Not all cables are up to spec. While lots of people pooh pooh optical cables, ...

I wouldn't even briefly consider buying from a company that can't be bothered to stock and distribute their products through retail outlets. Because that's just so damn easy, it's a real wonder everyone can't do it. There's no reason to believe ...
