Is there an actual difference between AB and A/AB ?
You're not wrong, but what's your point? Knowing how many class A watts an amp can provide is useful info.Hey @onhwy61 - I'm not really making a point, I'm fine with a manufacturer making a claim  to Class A at low power if accurate.Really I am a...
Is there an actual difference between AB and A/AB ?
Are you saying that amps like Pass Labs do not operate in class A up to a certain wattage or are you just saying that those amps should be called AB not A/AB?The latter. I mean, the whole point of AB is to avoid the crossover distortion of B, with...
Do $2k speakers + DSP = $50k speakers?
Properly integrated, subs are magic.Better with room acoustics being brought in before EQ. I'll go further: You can get better sound with satellites and a sub IF (and only IF) you can integrate them with each other and the room well. Otherwise, sm...
Would you put Beryllium in your ears?
Don't sniff the ear pads.
Matching bookshelves to towers.
It is a lot less important with auto EQ being used. :) Best,E
Class D vs Class AB - Looking for best used budget amplifier for Magnepan MG12
A. OR A/AB.  mess with D and be disappointed don’t be fooled by the hype.  There is no substitute,,,,,,,,, << cough >> Haha! I have a pair of ICEpower 250 ASP based monoblocks. You could not tell them apart from Parasound A21s of simi...
Separate subs for bass management & LFE in a surround set up
My question is more, will I lose some of the utility of the 1/4 placement for wave cancellation if both left and right front subs aren’t playing the exact same signal Yes. Is it worth $5? Probably not. What I mean is from an absolute testing / me...
The invention of measurements and perception
Those two questions need some sort of answer before the question of quantifiable measurement can take on any sort of meaning. Exactly, which brings me back to my original thesis: A measurement alone has no meaning until we have given it one.
The invention of measurements and perception
Thank you for the kind words. quality associated with it. Clearly, these numbers represent specific physical things. What i meant was, is 4 Volts warm? Is 0.8A precise imaging? Do 30 watts sound hard? Inventing a measure, such as your cholesterol...
Separate subs for bass management & LFE in a surround set up
I think you are over thinking it. Much more important will be the room tuning, and bass traps. After that, precise integration with your other speakers. Do that well and you will not be able to tell whether you are using subs or not, nor where the...
Modifying Philharmonic 3 crossovers
Resistors: MillsInexpensive, very good, dead accurate and thermally stable. I'm not a fan of Duelund's as they are deliberately not thermally stable. No thank you. :) As for bypassing, that's what I was discussing with CMR caps above 5 uF. Use a 0....
Speaker Cable Advice
@teeshotI meant that it’s not a pure win. You do get better imaging, but you sacrifice mid to treble. I guess if your speaker/ amp combo is naturally bright, it is win-win! Best,E
Does anyone have a good recommendation for the best quality home theater platform?
Who said anything about a 5 channel amplifier? :) I run 5 monoblocks. Best,E

Wireworld is a trade. It is dark, but phenomenal imaging.
Which Class D Amplifier? PS Audio, Ghent, Nord, Merrill or other???
+1 Tim. George has trouble making the case that a particular technical issue (i.e. dead time) results in a particular sonic aberration common to many Class D amplifiers. As I may have mentioned, I’ve had a number of audiophiles in my home (when it...
