How do you rationalize audio upgrades? I think the implicit formula many audiophiles use in making choices is like this:Different sounding + More expensive = BetterGet rid of any notion of money from your choices, and you suddenly find yourself buying less expensive gear and being happ...
Impedance Matching in the Modern Audio System To continue, say you have this:SS Streamer ---> Tube Pre --> SS AmpThe concern would be whether the impedance of the SS Amp is high enough for the preamp. The streamer on the other hand is not concerned with the nature of the preamp.
Impedance Matching in the Modern Audio System I'm using the term "source" here as the opposite of "target" , not as a type of equipment. If you think of this chain:CD Player ---> Preamp ---> Amplifier The CD Player is the source of the preamp. The preamp is the source of the amplifier....
Impedance Matching in the Modern Audio System Subsonic : Because solid state gear, like your source, can handle a broad range of targets, therefore, you won't have any issues. The problem is when you have a tube source ---> low impedance target. You don't have that. You have a solid state s...
Is Class D Analog or Digital ? Congratulations Audiozen, for failing to state what exactly you have a problem with, and then for further obfuscating the issue which was otherwise well enough discussed. Also, I disagree with your definitions, so lets just part ways as unamicably...
Impedance Matching in the Modern Audio System Hi OP:The issue is generally that Tube OUTPUT stages can't drive a low impedance input.Your streamer is solid state, therefore it has a solid state OUTPUT stage that feeds the integrated. That the pre/integrated is tube doesn't matter for the sake...
Can an IC based amp be considered 'high end'? Hi End - No. Needs a big 20 lb aluminum face plate. Hi Fidelity - Possibly. :)
Impedance Matching in the Modern Audio System Hey subsonic,In general this isn't something we worry about with solid state gear. The issue has more to do with tube output stages. They need fairly high impedance targets. A typical situation is a tube pre trying to work with a low impedance amp...
Luxman 590axii vs Pass Labs int 60 Hey audiofound - I have the last new 507ux in the US. :) Got it for a song or I would not have been able to afford it. I haven’t heard every Pass amp, but in general I don’t find them wonderful. I think this has a great deal to do with the speaker...
Luxman 590axii vs Pass Labs int 60 Hey @mtdining - Really curious which CJ preamp you had. :) @mickeyb - One thing I learned about the Pass fans is they tend to listen to different speakers than I do, so that's why I suggested to the OP that speakers matter. :)
Luxman 590axii vs Pass Labs int 60 I strongly encourage the OP to listen for himself. I don't find these two units that close and feel strongly he'll have a strong choice as well. Speakers matter a great deal though, so if possible to audition with your own speakers you absolutely ...
Bright High End Speakers = Bad Room? The anechoic and/or quasi-anechoic measurements people are used to seeing are supposed to be flat. In a room you should have a descending response from around 100-150 Hz. This is what all of the automated room-correction software tries to do, more...
Do I need voltage regulation in my power conditioner? I should say, I do like conditioners with good over/under voltage protection. These features are a lot cheaper to implement, and will disconnect your devices if the power goes too high or too low.
See Ayre QB-9 Twenty Upgrade Announcement That sucks. It is worth trying however on a completely different phase/circuit. Sometimes physical hum is caused by DC on the line. However, it is also true that some cheaper transformers hum. If you had been the original owner, this would be a ho...
Do I need voltage regulation in my power conditioner? I lived in an apartment with voltages swinging 120 to 130V. Technically still OK, but it made me a little nervous. Doing regulation requires a lot of iron, so, they are a very expensive feature which most people don't need, so I'd say you are fine... |
