Equipment Rack - How important in the grand scheme of things?
How about your room acoustics?? That’s usually an important early investment. As for your amp, have you tried the IsoAcoustic pucks? Last time I knew of anyone using a granite slab under an amp alone they hated it. I’ve not tried.
Magico vs the world
Of course, this is all my humble opinion. Please keep things civil and love them if you love them. :) I’ve gotten to hear the Magico S1 in the Magico demo room, and the A3 at a local dealer. Here’s what they do well:Glass smooth mid to trebleFanta...
Network Transport vs. CD Transport
Interesting.  Absolutely the worst sound I ever heard at a show was from a Mac Mini to an Oppo DAC. It was ear piercingly sharp. I always thought it was the DAC but perhaps I should reconsider. Anyway, also try with the Mini unpowered, see if that...
DAC question, help!
Depends how you hook them up. If you use the digital out of your CDP to the Hint, then the Hint. If you use the analog (dual RCA or dual XLR) outputs, then the CDP.You can hook both up at the same time, by the way, so you can do back and forth com...
Subwoofer dual wired hum question
It's more likely from having an uncommon ground reference.  Yes, an ISO transformer should solve the issue.
MQA DAC with Coax Output
I want to add something:To my ears, the quality of the DAC is much more important than MQA. I’d rather have a great DAC with no MQA or 96/24 MQA than a crappy DAC with full MQA. I have a DAC that can do full MQA, and I have it off, because I’d rat...
Legacy Wavelet as Preamp/DAC/DSP vs just DSP
One thing that I want to avoid is multiple DAC's in series, and this device does just that.  You could use a separate DAC, but that analog signal will be re-digitized (Analog-to-Digital conversion) and re-DAC'd. By using it as the DAC, you keep yo...
New Yamaha integrated amps
Sorry, Larry, you misspelled Luxman .... :-) Parasound is good, Luxman is noticeably better.  Happy to review the Yamaha if they want to send me a free one. :-)
Accuphase DP-560
OP- Sorry, what does this even mean?
Suggestions for good cheap Equalizer
You know, HF are often improved with good room acoustics. :) Consider GIK.
IM Distortion, Speakers and the Death of Science
What does "death of science" mean here? Here I take science to mean science in the public realm, as opposed to academic or manufacturer’s research. Because science involves progress and invention, so long as the educated public is stuck with a hand...
Teflon Cap upgrade or new set of NOS tubes for conrad johnson PV12A Preamp?
Sorry, didn't understand CJ was offering this as an upgrade! :)
IM Distortion, Speakers and the Death of Science
I recall Einstein's thought experiments ... before his time, it's kind of hard to find equipment like oscilloscopes, DMM, atom smasher and stuffs. True, Einstein theorized many things, but .... since then scientists have been in a rush to conf...
IM Distortion, Speakers and the Death of Science
The papers were peer reviewed, which implies that the test methodology stood up to critique by those with expertise in such things. What I meant was that the study includes data on actual user perception, and it's' not just a theoretical wor...
IM Distortion, Speakers and the Death of Science
As others have pointed out, correctly, science actually IS continuing. The GedLee metric is in fact an example of what we need. The barrier, IMHO is us the merely educated consumer. There may be a thousand new interesting metrics proposed via the ...
