Magico - Wide vs. Narrow
No insult was intended, really.  Just being realistic that audiophile level imaging is not what most consumers buy for.  Engaging, rhythm, and a wide sweet spot however are on most buyer's short list.
SVS SUB BETTER WITH LOW PASS FILTER OFF
doesn’t it also lessen the effective roll-off slope at the low end? Yes, but by that time it’s all pretty low in level. The point is not that this should always be done but to try it and listen for yourself. In some cases this can even help wit...
Am I crazy to upgrade?
For surround processors, I like the Marantz a lot better than Anthem.  I think they give you better control (with advanced Audyssey only) as well as sound a lot better than the Emotiva.  So, I hope you know the B&W sound you are coming from i...
Magico - Wide vs. Narrow
A wide sweet spot is by definition lossy. l think a lot more goes into that, and even if lossy, often highly desirable by most music lovers, if not necessarily by audiophiles entranced by imaging.
??? What Is The MOST Expensive System You Ever Heard ??? What Was Your Opinion ???
@jfuquay  I've had this happen several times at shows.  It's always a well treated room.  You can hear how good it sounds all the way down the hall.
Solid state amp that tube fan can be happy with?
Luxman is a great option here.  Ayre too, but needs auditioning.
SVS SUB BETTER WITH LOW PASS FILTER OFF
Also, hot tip:  If adding a sub to ported mains try sealing the main speakers.  That often leads to easier integration and less distortion.
SVS SUB BETTER WITH LOW PASS FILTER OFF
The most vexing and confounding problem I know of is how different speakers measure once in a real room, and how different each room is.  I'd go mad if I tried setting up a subwoofer by specs alone.  Some may argue that I "went mad" instead, but p...
Replacing Bryston 4BST for Aerial 10Ts
Well, one option is to attempt a repair.  This is a dual mono design, so you have 50/50 chance it's a power supply issue and fixable.  OTOH, at that age you need a full recap anyway. You might get more from e-bay than a trade.
SVS SUB BETTER WITH LOW PASS FILTER OFF
The only heresy I know is trying to do this all without measurements first.  I mean, it's dogma, but I find getting this right by ear alone is so random.  Bloom and bloat IMHO had more to do with room modes, where a little EQ can go a long long w...
Selecting Rear Surrounds for 5.1 system
Hi OP: The ideal surrounds have a lot to do with the character of the fronts.  If the fronts are very neutral it makes it very easy to pick among neutral surrounds, but B&W have their own sound characteristics.  I find that these traits are n...

@jonwolfpell - Very interesting perspective.  I'm curious about one thing though.  Did you find a difference in imaging?  Would you say either speaker had a wider sweet spot?
Magico - Wide vs. Narrow
@audiokinesis  - That's an interesting POV.  I would have thought that the slot would act like a severe low pass filter.
Magico - Wide vs. Narrow
Also, incidentally, the tweeter and mids on the Snells were among what we'd consider "high value" (i.e. inexpensive) devices today.  They did not achieve their  performance with supreme high-end drivers.
How much dirt is too much dirt
I wish I could tell you that any of these meters gave solid data on noise and perception.  So much depends on the filtration in your gear as well.  My basic guidelines are to create two zones of power conditioning.  One is the clean zone on which...
