Furman Upgrade to Niagra
OP: I recommend SMP and LiFT as must-haves and the least expensive unit with that is the PST-8. Beyond that, the Elite 15 PF (or 20 PF) adds things like power factor correction and multiple separate power banks and switched outlets, which are gre...
Linear Power supplies for DACs...?
My biggest concern with wall warts is the noise they could inject into the AC line which gets picked up elsewhere. Putting a noise source AFTER a power conditioner without separate filter banks could allow it to inject noise into your previously c...
Furman Upgrade to Niagra
Unfortunately, Furman makes many models and their feature set is confusing. The two key features audiophiles care about which your Furman strip lacks is SMP, and LiFT. SMP is series mode surge suppression, and LiFT is linear filtering. The PST 8 o...
Confused with size of speaker to get when placed along long wall in large room
Your listening room is considered the entire area.  While your proximity to the speakers will determine how sensitive and how much power you need to hear it, it is the total area which will determine the bass performance. Use the AM Acoustics roo...
Power cords different lengths.
I don't even think most of my gear has the same length cords!! Yes, it's fine, so long as the cords are adequately sized to begin with.
Easy Come Easy Go…….BOOM!
Taking a closer look at the damage, OP, it's a real shame that the lightning took out so much of your room acoustic treatments.... real shame.  😉
Easy Come Easy Go…….BOOM!
Not that this is necessarily relevant to the OP, but I've been thinking about a roof replacement and reading up on metal roofs.  They are no more/less prone to lightning than shingles but compared to asphalt shingles may be much less fire prone.  ...
I want to replace the router/modem Comcast with a high quality for streaming
@fastfreight  Yes, so long as there is not a metalic Ethernet cable that is going from inside to outside.  Then the only thing you have to worry about is long Ethernet runs.  Some are lucky enough to not need Ethernet, and can run their home 100% ...
Do You Buy Speakers Without Hearing Them?
Not never.... but rarely.  If I'm familiar with the brand and they are utility speakers, then yes.  My current surround speakers for instance.  I wouldn't do this for main L and R.
Experience With Cutler Hammer (Eaton) CH Series Panels
OP: It’s worth doing a serious survey about how much power you will actually use. I can’t imagine a family of 4 actually using 200A of service unless you have multiple kitchens and more than 3 heat pumps and/or a workshop, but doing separate pane...
I want to replace the router/modem Comcast with a high quality for streaming
Honestly haven't paid for cable TV in at least 10 years.  Everything I want to watch is on a streaming service.  I had Sling for a while, but forcing me to buy news channels as a bundle instead of picking one or the other was a deal breaker.
I want to replace the router/modem Comcast with a high quality for streaming
Clarification:  A long Ethernet run is 30' or more. The latest research indicates that INSIDE a home, you want to add isolation, not surge paths, so use an Ethernet isolator instead of an Ethernet surge protector.  The latter creates paths to gro...
I want to replace the router/modem Comcast with a high quality for streaming
Hi @fastfreight The path from lightning surges to Ethernet connected devices like a TV or streamer or PC is like this:   Outside copper cable --> cable modem --> Wifi router (which also has an Ethernet switch) --> All Ethernet connect...
Easy Come Easy Go…….BOOM!
Was there a whole house surge protector installed ??? 🤣 I’m joking! I’m joking. Damn that looks terrible!  What an exceptionally violent lightning strike, glad everyone is OK! While a surge protector would do nothing for this home, 99% of damag...
Experience With Cutler Hammer (Eaton) CH Series Panels
I also, lastly want to point out that I don’t know why audiophiles are obsessed with the best connection to the outdoor supply. A little resistance and inductance in the wiring and panels can be very beneficial to reducing noise and the effect of ...
