My Four Favorite SS Amps To clarify: I meant a Vandersteen SS amplifier driven by a CAT preamp. Of course, this was a Vandersteen demo so it was driving Vandersteen speakers. Also, CAT preamps are my absolute favorite preamps, SS, tube or otherwise. Wish I could affo...
Noise coming from subwoofers and centre channel I’m a huge fan of Furman power conditioners, but I can almost guarantee no conditioner will solve a ground loop problem, no matter how much you spend on it. Cheater plugs will work, at a high safety risk. What you really want is to isolate the si...
Smaller plug-in AC Purifiers -- Shunyata, iFi, Puron...something else? What do you like? Furman PST-8. It's not a plug in but provides better noise filtering than most, down to ~ 3kHz and exceptional surge protection. https://amzn.to/3Uqhsk9
Maggies and subwoofer integration The planar speakers are so fast and most subwoofers are so slow. ' My HSU subwoofer is as fast as any planar, when well integrated. When poorly integrated it's a hot mess and not worth the electric bill.
Maggies and subwoofer integration I’ll counter that 90% of the time I’ve heard subwoofers they were not well integrated, so of course I’m not surprised that adding a subwoofer to a maggie by most sounds bad. The issue IMHO is the TCO (total cost of ownership) of a sub is a lot hi...
Noise coming from subwoofers and centre channel OP: The coax only matters if it’s plugged into a device in your rack and can create a new ground path. Coaxial ground loop eliminators are cheap and plentiful. Honestly everyone should use them just in case. Having an antenna or cable TV cable gr...
Maggies and subwoofer integration Thanks guys. Definitely a subwoofer adds and enhances the soundstsge. I’ll probably set it to 50-60HZ and low gain as possible. THe subwoofer only works if it’s integrated well, and setting it as low as possible is just proof it’s not integr...
Noise coming from subwoofers and centre channel PS - I did find direct HDMI to optical isolators at around $750 a pair, so the options above are a lot cheaper. Also, double check you don't also have a coaxial cable coming in somewhere, those are often hum sources, and relatively easy to fix.
Noise coming from subwoofers and centre channel It is risky to use a cheater plug. The correct answer here is you want an HDMI isolator, and one way to achieve this isolation is to use HDMI to Ethernet converters... https://amzn.to/3OyueZU
Noise coming from subwoofers and centre channel OP: It does sound like a ground loop is forming. If you disconnect the video cable from your projector does the noise go away?
Noise coming from subwoofers and centre channel I was going to suggest could it be the projector has another ground path?? Try turning it on without any video cables attached.
Maggies and subwoofer integration The only issue I have ever seen with "speed" is not "speed" but bad room integration. Unfortunately we get fooled into thinking the specs tell us anything about how the system is performing in room, and it's a hot mess when actually installed. M...
I want to replace the router/modem Comcast with a high quality for streaming @pindac Cat 6 or better, shielded is plenty good enough for all streaming. 1GigE has more than enough bandwidth for even video. If shielded, you may want to ensure your wifi router has grounded plugs.
Maggies and subwoofer integration You want to go as high as you can for crossover point, 80 Hz is even better. The more you can relieve the main speakers the less distortion. Yes, you can run full range to the sub, so either output will work but also, you can use a single cap to ...
