Need budget recommendations to complete my HT. I agree with Rsuminsby. Get something like a denon 3801 receiver and the B&W's all around. Don't skimp on a dvd. Technology changes too fast. Buy a denon 2200 for around $500 and you should be future proofed for a long time.
Isolating bookshelf speakers without stands? someone has been selling cork and rubber squares on both audiogon and ebay for 4 for $10. They work nicely and seem to be the same as Mapleshade's.
Changing EL-34's to 6550 or Kt-88's Contact CJ. They tend to have a very strong opinion about which tubes their amps were designed for. Keep in mind that changing to different EL34s will change the sound too.
Stock Jolida 202A Driver tubes Get rid of the stock tubes. Jolida is infamous for putting in cheap chinese or russian tubes. They figure you are going to tube roll anyway. We need an idea of what you are looking for to give ideas-more detail, warmer, etc...
Best Pre/Pro for 2 channel Anthem AVM-20
PreAmp advice needed -- Anthem AVM-2 vs AVM-20? I bought an AVM-2 after the 20 came out. It was the only way I could afford it. I think the sound quality is the same in both-AWESOME.All I miss on the 2 is pro logic II. I wish that I could add this but anthem doesn't have an upgrade for dpl II. ...
Satelite/S Video/Stereo Pre-Amp Connection Questio Get a new satellite receiver! They are fairly cheap on ebay or switch to dishnetwork and get a nice 500 series box with multiple outputs. You should be able to get a 3 room system for anywhere from free to $99.
Suggestions please. Look at coincident speakers-Triumph, conquest or stretch your budget a little for eclipse.
Soliloquy 5.0 need stands? I love my Soliloquys. However, keep in mind that the 5.0 is rear ported and really needs a couple of feet behind it to sound best.Do what I did since you have a nice sub: Sell the 5.0's and get a pair of Sat-5's. The sat-5 is virtually the same so...
What is the warmest receiver... Rotel is the only "warm" one in the bunch. I can't complain about Denon sound but if you put bright sound into it, it will come out bright. You may have to look into some british integrated amps?
Shipping to APO address IT SUCKS! The APO system stinks for larger audio gear. Priority mail only gets you as far as the APO terminal in the US, then you are on your own. Same with insurance. I had to file a claim and it takes months. You had to wait 90 days to file and ...
Soundstage and the effect of the rear wall First of all, are your speakers ported? If they are rear ported, you have problems. Many speaker companies have made speakers that are meant to be bookshelf or wall mounted (Soliloquy Sat-5).You will get better soundstage by moving the speakers ou...
REL Setup 1-Run the Linns full range2-Either run the REL full range also or use the crossover to limit how high it will go. You won't get any weak areas this way and can play with the REL crossover to limit the overlap on upper bass.NOTE-make sure you are p...
SET Tube Question You shouldn't even need a sub with the Belles. Even a 3 watt 2A3 based amp will sound great on them. These are great speakers to try out very low power, warm sounding amps.Ultimately, a pair of Cary 300B's would be awesome but starting with a pair...
In search of a 5.1 receiver with THX?? Who cares about the THX lable? All it means is that they paid extra for that designation. Some very nice units don't say THX but will put out more clean power than many that are THX or THX II labled. You should be more concerned about speaker effic... |
