Turntable newbie in need for newbie help Start reading hifi magazines. You can pick up something like the dual 505 listed today on audiogon for $50 or go for something like a new music hall for $200 or so.I wouldn't spend much more than that if you aren't sure on what you want/like. Seve...
Turntable newbie in need for newbie help Hi,The marantz is an ok table but most have some problems. From what I've seen, older marantz tables have trouble keeping speed consistent due either to a bad control or motor-not worth fixing. If you are new at this sport, stick with a little simp...
I need to replace my E34 tube on my Audio Aero Amp Now it's time to learn tube rolling! All EL34's sound different. Personally, I feel that vintage Mullards are best followed by telefunken. NOS Siemans can be nice too and a little less money. I agree with infinitebaffle about svetlana's. The Shugu...
Would this amp/pre amp paring work? Your idea will work great! You should try quite hard to match the front 3 channels. Buying vintage may help you get 3 monoblocks so you don't have to waste an extra channel. The other solution that I would highly recommend is: Get 2 stereo amps th...
compact bookshelf speaker for my system Try soliloquy Sat-5's for all 3 front channels. They are amazing with music and are designed to go on a shelf. Also, with no port, they don't suffer from enclosure problems nearly as much as others.Try www.underwoodhifi.com He give amazing pricing...

Tube amp and speaker impedence matching If you really like a speaker that has too low an impedance, I have a couple amps that handle as low as 1.2 ohms with 120 watts-tubes. Let me know if you need new amp suggestions. You can sell the CJ easily.
Stereo amp upgrade path? 1-stratus mini's might be the best speaker psb has made!2-You need a good sub for the 5.1 recordings. Not only will it keep your mains from picking up the slack, it will keep the amp driving the mains from overworking.3-If you buy a used dvd, make...
Tube amp and speaker impedence matching I don't know about these speakers but 4 ohm thiels drop to less than 1/2 that which can cause problems and distortion.
which older /used preamp for phono stage ??? Be careful with phono. The vintage ones simply don't have enough gain and many aren't switchable MM/MC. Stuff from after 1970 should be more flexible.
Please read and help me If you want laid back, I really don't recommend the CJ or ARC. How about classe, threshold or sumo for trouble free solid state? For tubed, I agree with the suggestions above, quicksilver or counterpoint.
Tetrode vs Triode mode in Tube amps I've got a triode/ultralinear switch on my Dynaco ST-80 (1996). I don't even have to power the amp down to switch modes. It makes a very subtle difference but noticable. It's kind of like having 2 amps in one. I usually run in triode but if I want...
