Carver Power Amps From my experiences, I would guess that it might put out that power from 1000hz to 10,000. Carver has no bass and no highs........
Pre/power Amp Advice question: why stay with matched amp & pre? You may find better deals on equipment if you are willing to mix.note: Doubling your wattage will only gain you 3db, a 10db gain will effectively double your volume. Keep that in mind if you are looki...
Need Amplifier Recommendations Personally, I don't think 1 sub will cut it. You should get a pair! I was told by Janis Audio (sub manufacturer) that by crossing over a system at 100hz will effectively quadruple the power to your mains if using powered subs. I would think that y...
Is there a problem at Revel? I was told that Proceed is "gone". Levenson is moving their plant to__________?One thing I am sure of is Harman International stock is doing exceptionally well. They hit a record high of 130 today! I'm sure at out expense.....
Whole house surge protection/voltage regulation My whole home surge protector is not very refined. It will and has kept me from ever blowing a fuse/surge protector inside my house. However, it does nothing for line conditioning. Furthermore, it has much higher tolerances than something like a R...
Are KT-88 a good substitute for 6550c? According to the "tube Substitution Guidebook" by HA Middleton, 6550 is an excellent sub for a KT-88. If you are worried about any harm/damage, don't worry. Switching these will only change the sound, not the electronics.
New preamp or other suggestions? Lose the Thiels! No matter how much I like thiels, they can very easily sound harsh. Also, some "softer" sounding amps (tube/class A) would mellow them a bit but Thiels are so hard to drive that most tube amps can't handle them.I have learned that...
Recommendation for multi-ch pre/pro I love my Anthem AVM-2. The software is even upgradeable. The bummer is that the hardware is not upgradeable. So, I sacrificed having pro-logic II to have amazing stereo sound and great multi-room capabilities. It is also quite easy to use/set-up.
newbie seeking stereo system advice Bi-amping is not so simple and should not be an option for a while/ever. A nice sub with a built in crossover will let your amp work a lot less and improve the bass. You need to either have pre-amp outs on the roksan or use a sub with a nice built...
Tube substitution chart on the Net? Email me. I'll be happy to look a few up for you. I have several different guides.Emeryemfoods@yahoo.com
ARC LS2 tube life? 6922's tend to last longer than many other types. I've gotten over 5years out of my current pair and they still test 85%. They can change the sound drastically and last a long time. Go buy a pair of telefunkens for $75 to $90 and forget about them...
Need help from tube guys to select a tube preamp Good luck finding one with remote!
Phono stage in vintage Marantz? Would you hear much of a difference if you used a high end phono pre with your marantz-probably not. The marantz is a nice receiver and the phono should treat you well. I doubt you are using a $5000 turntable with it anyway.
Analog under 2k? Used Sota tables seem to go for way too little. You can usually pick up a $2500 table for around $700.
No Bi-Amp but tubes for Maggies -- can it be done? You really shouldn't consider anything less than 100 watts/channel. However, to really make maggies sing, you should look for at least double that. Would you consider a hybrid like a moscode(tube gain, solid state output)? Regardless, be prepared ... |
