Antiskate issue. I was around in the days of "elliptical styli and low VTF MM cartridges" and I never heard of anything like the VTF value for anti-skating. I remember a 1/3 or 1/4 rule of thumb. Before I adopted linear tracking (which avoids the skating force prob...
What dynamic spkr. did you go to from electrostat? When I designed and built my subwoofer systems (one 2-driver system for each of three front speakers) I was thinking about LF extension beyond the 40 Hz that my MG1.6 can do. However, as things have evolved, they let me go from cone drivers to pan...
Repair for Tandberg Troll? Have you tried Contact cleaner (from Radio Shack)? It might fix your problems.
If boulder is tops what is second tier? Interesting remark by the Boulder guy, about how all cables sound the same. Maybe, with a Boulder (or some other amp) they do. After all, the cables do something to the electrical load which the amp sees, and some amps handle loading anomalies bet...
how do you use an equalizer? A spectrum analyser (also called a Real Time Analyser, RTA) is by far the best way to see what you have to deal with, and to assess your corrective actions, whether these be passive room treatments or electronic. The Pro Sound Behringer DEQ2496, a...
Plastic ring over tweeter opinion Zaikesman...Censoring seems to be quite haphazard. What passes one day is gone the next. Sometimes the missing post is quite innocuous, and I wonder if I mistakenly didn't hit the proper key.
Nuforce Mmakshak...Ebony will yeild a "darker" background, while balsa will produce "faster" bass.
Half the information on CDs is analogue Exlibris...Thanks for the info.I also made a mistake once. I thought I was wrong about something, but I wasn't :-)
Very short speaker cable length recommended? If cable lengths between 6 inches and ten feet affect the sound for better or worse then either your cables or your amplifier (or both) are lousy. IMHO or course. I use 4 ft biwire Goertz to my Maggies.
Can the sound of SS amp deteriorate over time?? Sean...The Navy systems see frequent turn on/off power transients, (for tests and drills) but these do not seem to have the bad effect which some folk expect. Perhaps this is because thermal transients are avoided. Incadessent light bulbs are the ...
Can the sound of SS amp deteriorate over time?? Sean...In the field of ballistic missile guidance systems (lots of very complex and precise solid state electronics) we have rather extensive experience with continuous operation and with on/off operation. (The Air Force operates continuously whil...
Thoughts on adding a Super tweeter . You will be overrun with bats.
Half the information on CDs is analogue Shadorne...For many, if not most, applications, a digital implementation is both superior in performance and lower in cost. However, one cannot jump to the conclusion that this is true for every application: eg: audio. (But I do agree with you, mo...
Half the information on CDs is analogue Aside from RIAA equalization, lots of tricks are used to make vinyl sound good. The one I like is RCA "Dynagroove". We all know that the contact pressure of the stylus is huge, and vinyl is flexible. RCA figured out that flexure of the vinyl is pr...
Setting anti-skate Dougdeacon...Of course your vote counts. (But we aren't voting). |
