Compare Large Advent? Stereophile did a review of them just recently. I also had a pair long ago, and I remember them as sounding real good even compared with much more expensive models at that time.
What current China import sounds like a CJ?? How do you "rip off" a tube audio amplifier circuit? Every possible way to use a KT88 was public knowledge decades ago. And triodes before that.
Speaker Tilt Back benefits? Some speakers have tweeters below the woofer, and some (MTM) have the tweeter in between two woofers. Tilting speakers back reduces the LF bounce off the floor. It also discourages people from setting drink glasses down on the top.
SACD and an audiophile question SACD has the technical potential to be better than CD, and, of course, it also offers multichannel which, when properly implemented with good speakers all around, is a leap forward. However, not all SACD discs are well mastered, and may sound infe...
Need to know proper ampere valu for fuse. ALL fuses are timed devices. The amount of current they will carry (without blowing) depends on how long the current flows. A common type of fuse will blow in about one second if the current is twice the rating. It can carry even higher current fo...
12" 45 RPM records: What's the story? Nsgarch...As the cutter cuts, it disturbs the surrounding material, like the wake of a boat traveling through water. Adjacent to the cutter is the material for 1.8 seconds earlier. I learned this so long ago that I can't give you a reference. Sorr...
12" 45 RPM records: What's the story? Shadorne...Your technical snow job is inspiring! How would you like to do marketing for me?Nsgarch...Not "during manufacture" (pressing of the hot vinyl). It's done by the cutting head. And the fidelity of the pre-echo is quite good if you boost t...
12" 45 RPM records: What's the story? Nsgarch... One more thought. If the pre-echo leads the music by 1.8 seconds (for a 33rpm LP) it isn't print through. (1.33 seconds for a 45 rpm).
12" 45 RPM records: What's the story? Onhwy61...I was thinking only in terms of the first groove. But, if I were in the high end audiophile business I might claim to have a secret process to eliminate it throughout the LP, and challenge anyone to prove me wrong :-)Nsgarch...It's when ...
12" 45 RPM records: What's the story? Tbg...You really don't need a "low noise system" to hear pre-echo on the first grooves of an LP. But, for the rest of the LP the program material (which for purposes of hearing pre-echo) might be considered as "noise" will make it impossible to he...
How Much Push/Pull Tube Power for Maggies I actually made some measurements of the voltage driving a MG 1.6 when playing at an admittedly very loud level with demanding music. I concluded that my 600 watt/4 ohm amplifiers are not really overkill. They approached clipping. However, most of...
Do I need acoustic foam in my listening room? If this is a dedicated room, almost like an audio studio, use foam. It works best. Other room treatments are compromises intended to look reasonably acceptable in a living room.If you have any freedom to alter room dimensions this would do more go...
Good speakers less efficient? Shadorne says.... "Does this imply that there is fundamentally a SPL sweetspot for particular forms of music that is independent of the speaker used?"Of course. Just yesterday I listened to my CD of Kings College Chior Christmas Carols, and with a...
Text in CDs If a little text makes you ecstatic, just think how you will react to a DVDA!
Need to know proper ampere valu for fuse. Herman...YES, fuses are labeled. However I find that while the voltage rating (of little importance) is usually readable, the important current rating often is not. Why do they do this? |
