Bose 901...really
Inpepinnovations...The nature of these speakers (reflected sound) would surely make them more affected by the room than most speakers. The response that I observed (without the extra equalization) was a very broard "hump" across the entire audio r...
crackling noise at high volume
For clarification....Tweeters are pretty tough, so it probably is not the music volume per se that is causing the problem. Most likely it is the TOTAL signal level, including bass which never gets to the tweeter, which is causing your power amplif...
crackling noise at high volume
It's the sound of your tweeters destroying themselves :-(
Bose 901...really
More interesting findings about the Bose 901s. I hooked up a Behringer DEQ2496 equalizer to see how they were doing. This equalization was in addition to the Bose equalizer supplied with the speakers. The frequency response was aweful! It was a bi...

Dweller...Check my 2/6 posting, and see if you don't think I am having fun. I am sure that your Harmonic Technology Pro-9s are the best (for you).

Mrtennis...You are right that all these diverse oponions are worthless to someone trying to choose what to buy. But, is that really the purpose of a thread such as this? It seems to me that this kind of thread exists so that insecure audiophiles c...
Review: Behringer DEQ2496 Equalizer
Mingles...Just because the thing is capable of so many different functions (it won't prepare your tax return) you don't need to do them all. Some which are valuable for a live performance setup have no application to home audio. My units (I have t...
Cartridge polarity?
Back when phono was my only source I deliberately connected one cartridge channel backwards, so that it was out of phase. Since most of the signal is common mode in the two channels (mono) this eases the load on the power supply of the power amp. ...

They say that Home Depot Orange extension cords are great. The only problem is that they don't have an exotic name, and the price is an embarasment.
Magnepan 1.6QR
For less than $1000 you can't beat the CarverPro zr1600. On my MG1.6 the zr1600 is equal to or better than the well regarded (audiophile approved)Channel Island Audio D-200. The only drawback is that it has a fan for cooling, which makes a little ...
Amp Designs That Are Able To Drive 4/2 Ohms Load
As Bob noted, inability to drive a 2 ohm load does not reflect "Crappy" design. It reflects inteligent design (sorry about that) for an amp that will be used with 8 or 4 ohm speakers. If you want to drive low impedance loads look to pro sound amps ...
Classical speakers that do violins well??
Mrtennis...There are enormous differences in the way that different microphones sound. Part of the skill of a recording engineer is to pick from a wide range of mics the ones most suitable for the instruments to be recorded. It is very unlikely th...
Magnepan mc1
Question...Does the MC1 have a separate tweeter section with thin wires? If it is run full range with the woofer-type wires it doesn't need a fuse. The fuse (in the MG1.6 at least) is just in the tweeter circuit.
Classical speakers that do violins well??
Mrtennis...4 ohms is a lot for the MG1.6, although that value would be in line with what many speakers use when trying to hush up a dome tweeter to match the typical woofer. Since Magneplanar designs and builds both the woofer and tweeter parts of...
Classical speakers that do violins well??
Mrtennis...If you think the MG 1.6 high end is exagerated use the externally mounted tweeter padding resistor that the manufacturer provided. My measurements confirm Magneplanar specs which show no high end boost. It's flat. They say that many com...
