What does more power do for Magnepans?
Stilljd...93-95dB at 11 ft is indeed loud. I believe you are right about the voltages being ten times higher than you recorded due to meter scale error. 2.84 volts into these 4 ohm speakers would be only 2 watts. I never tried to measure the woofe...
Stereophile Class A and Frequency Response
I just received a CD (Boadwalk Pipes and Bach on the Biggest" ACCHOS/CD/02). The two organs are in the convention center at Atlantic City NJ. The original master tapes, digitally remnastered for this CD, were made in 1956 by Mercury's renowned tea...
Why does my vinyl sound so bright?
With vinyl there is always a little feedback of the acoustic vibration to the cartridge. Low frequencies are most pronounced. Perhaps your old TT location picked up more of this feedback, and therefore gave the overall sound a fuller character. Th...
Stereophile Class A and Frequency Response
Does anyone remember the old magazine "Audio". That was for real.
Stereophile Class A and Frequency Response
Gawdbless,,,It's that last octave, down to maybe 16 Hz, which lets you FEEL some organ music. If you don't play that kind of music 30 Hz is plenty good.

What exactly causes clicks and pops on vinyl?
Acoustat6...I am not a Trekie, so I never heard the Scotty/Spock statment. But it's so true. This axiom was promulgated back in the 50's by a Japanese engineer, Tagushi, who was a disciple of the great American QC expert Dr Edward Deming. Post war ...
What exactly causes clicks and pops on vinyl?
The above comments pretty much explain why you hear clicks and pops and sometimes a continuous "swish" when you play a record. But it is wrong to attribute it all to careless manufacture and sloppy user practices. The origin of the problem really ...
No wonder SACD hasn't caught on
In my experience classical music in any format does not exist in record stores. In fact record stores have almost disappeared. However, there are several internet dealers that I use who have a reasonable selection of SACD and DVDA. Some in Europe a...
What does more power do for Magnepans?
Stilljd...Even a "cheap" multimeter is plenty accurate enough. (An oscilloscope. if you had one would be the best because you could see the peak voltage directly). My RS meter is digital, and displays a new measurement about once per second. As th...
Removing light scratch from brushed aluminium ?
McIntosh has this problem licked!
What does more power do for Magnepans?
Germanboxers...As you say, 96 dB is too loud for listening. I was running a test.Being a retired engineer, I have made a bunch of measurements, including looking for compression. I saw no compression up to a SPL where I would fear for the safety o...
What does more power do for Magnepans?
You might want to read a thread I initiated on this subject, starting as follows... _____________ Maggies...Measured Amp Power Requirements Just how many watts does it really take to drive Maggies? Two things made me investigate thisÂ…first: on a v...
How Does Lossless Work?
Dave_rosenblum...My computer doesn't do "2" or "3".2 = 1 03 = 1 1 and 4 = 1005 = 101etc..I think you have oversimplified it.
