Music from hard drive better than CD? Jman66 - there are some computer music players that also treat "related" songs differently if tagged that way. For example, I believe I read that you can associate two songs with iTunes so that one will always follow the other and the normal gap t...
Music from hard drive better than CD? Pardales, my quick check of i-retailers indicates the Apogee mini-DAC will set you back about $1.2K. I use a Waveterminal U24 ($160). If you went that route, it would leave you a cool $1K to find a good DAC that could also be used for other things...
phantom center channel Kal-Given the difficulty of properly setting up even a two channel system to get signals to sum and interact properly, and the fact that adding a center channel magnifies the set up problem in a non-linear fashion, I suspect the trade off still mi...
If Rowland made PC cases..... Hmm... The Ahanix link there didn't work. Take a look at this:http://www.ahanix.com/dvine5.htmlThe Silverstone cases look pretty nice too.
If Rowland made PC cases..... There are a whole range of companies that make media PC cases... Try googling Ahanix, Antec. These puppies typically aren't cheap, but do offer a good range of in/out options and--most importantly--are typically configured to be *very* quiet...My ...
Music from hard drive better than CD? C'mon guys, Apple is better/worse than Win in *some* circumstances. For HT/audio use, I think the Mac fits great--I bought a mini. Relevant decisional included:1. Form Factor. Apple wins on this count hands down. I'm not ashamed to have it in my l...
Music from hard drive better than CD? I was anything but an Apple fan--I've got four Win XP computers in the house and a NAS running Win Storage Server software--but still ended up hanging a Mac Mini on the stereo to do music duty. I looked at SFF PCs, but the cost to get to something...
Is Windows Media Lossless Lossless??? Jazzdude-Just like AAC, WMA *can* be lossless, I believe. There are provisions for .wav > lossless WMA that will be bit-for-bit identical if the WMA is converted back to .wav. The "author" of the WMA has some options in terms of amount of compr...
Is Windows Media Lossless Lossless??? What comes out of a computer can most definitely approach a CD player. I don't use a soundcard at all--I use a waveterminal U24 USB audio device that can be plugged into my outboard DAC via coax. Its dangerously close to my DV-50s.I had huge probl...
Apple Mini 'puter as a CD jukebox? You need the airport or some kind of DAC in conjunction with either a USB or firewire audio device. The Mac Mini does not have an audio output or a digital coax. I have a very hard time believing that the performance of the airport going directly ...
Speaker Wire for a non-anal listener I would recommend looking at the Kimber line. You can probably skip over the $15K Black Pearl, but they have some well regarding offerings on the less expensive end as well--the 4PR and 8PR, and see what you can afford. Since they tend to run on t...
I need RCA Connection help Why not chain them in series--run the equalizer outs into the dynamic expander and then back into the loop. One or the other must have a pass through function.
Music from hard drive better than CD? Jmesarch-You may want to look at the Roku Soundbridge products, the Slimp3, and the CD30. They are network audio devices, and I think they are all "server-push" so they will allow you to run multiple remotes off a single computer. Don't know wheth...
Recording line input to USB via D/A? The ART DIO has a good rep. I use a Waveterminal U24 for USB to PCM output--ignoring the A/D. The U24 also seems to have coax and toslink inputs. You might start with the U24 and then see if the ART makes an appreciable difference.
Is Windows Media Lossless Lossless??? This might be interesting reading specifically on WMA:http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t31615.html |
