Beatles vs. Stones
@onhwy61 I’m taking everything you say in the post above as gospel. Thanks for setting me straight! As a matter of fact I did indeed see McCartney on stage alongside Plant, Page and the rest of Led Zep when I saw them at the Rose Palace (or was it...
Giussani Research Speakers Italy
Sorry, I've never heard of the company.
Why Are We Breaking Our Brains?
@waytoomuchstuff Some of us gravitate toward the mess that is art. Some of us gravitate toward the precision that is science. Are you compelled to precisely figure things out? Or is it okay to get enough info to be able to intellectually/emotional...
Why Are We Breaking Our Brains?
Use the numbers to get within spitting distance. Then switch to subjective analysis. To what your senses, experiences and emotions tell you.   Finally, I know I've mentioned this a zillion times on this website, but for thirty+ years I made a li...
Ray Charles - "Rap is not music"
What can I say? Sure, let a thousand flowers bloom, but it is genuinely rare when I enjoy hip-hop or rap. To me it's mostly just Boom Boom Thud, Boom Boom Thud. Maybe on the car radio...
Incredible improvement in sound quality
Yeah, it's always nice when you go to get your ears cleaned. Things become more trebly. More immersive. More 3D. More dynamic range. Lyrics are more understandable. Your mother-in-law's voice becomes more abrasive.
Beatles vs. Stones
@onhwy61 Thanks for setting it straight for me! 'Preciate it.
Why Are We Breaking Our Brains?
I follow the audiophile path because I love and appreciate every nano-nano-nano of improvement (cue Robin Williams). This isn't a quantitative, scientific pursuit for me. I don't agonize over the numbers. I don't care about the test results. I jus...
Beatles vs. Stones
@cd318 Yeah, I have to agree that, at their best, the Beach Boys’ recordings are things of absolute loveliness. As fine as anything ever put to vinyl.
Why Are We Breaking Our Brains?
Do a lot of listening and quaffing. Trust your ears and palate. Let them develop. Do what you can to improve both what you listen to and quaff, but don't go broke or too nuts over it.
Stylus gauge recommendations ?
When I ordered a new cartridge from Gene Rubin Audio (a Hana ML), Gene also sold me a very simple, very modestly priced Ortofon stylus force gauge. It operates like a simple lever. It worked just fine.
Beatles vs. Stones
The Stones explored the darker regions of my being. The Beatles had tons of song-writing ability but often seemed to be wagging their fingers at me.
Opinion: Modern country is the worst musical genre of all time
It was the Byrds' Sweetheart of the Rodeo LP that made me get beyond my hatred of Country & Western and begin to love it more than I rightly should. I might say, too, that somewhere down the line I bought a banjo. I still play it more than I o...
Audiphile Press: Am I jaded, experienced, or has it declined?
In defense of all the ho-hummers on this thread concerning the similarities between the audiophile rags, the covers of a couple TAS and Stereophiles I got  recently could well have been Mike 'n Ike. Hilariously similar. A three-quarter view of a t...
Beatles vs. Stones
Enjoyed them both, and too different from each other for me to be able to rank them in my head.  Sweet vs. tart. Tune-smiths vs rockers. In any case, I enjoyed and still enjoy Bowie more than either of them. But yeah, it was an important decision ...
