Balanced Power
what Stenho is talking about is wiring up 220v power, like you would for an oven or clothes dryer.the sort of balanced power that applies to audio, uses a large toroid (usually) isolation transformer to convert from 120+/0- to 60+/60-. I have a un...
Any one else has a problem re: shipping damage
FIle a claim in small claims court, it will get you a definitive timeline. They won't show up to fight it, and will settle beforehand. THis is the report from others who have had issues with UPS/Fedex.good luck.-Ed
Worthwhile $5 Tweak
If you guys are getting better sound from lifting the grounds, there's a reason for it - something is up with your AC. Lifting the ground is a band-aid solution, not really a wise move - better to fix the root of the problem than half-assed things...
300B Tubes - Which is Best?
I like the WE ones. They were moving recently and setting up a new production line somewhere down south, so supply of them is hard to find at the moment - maybe sold out temporarily. They set the standard in this tube and have been doing so for 60...

Turntable - Where do I start ?
I just got the Wilson Benesch Circle setup, complete with arm and cart - all works together really well. I couldnt' swing the Teres 255 and Triplanar arm (+ ?? cart) that I wanted, right now, so this is holding me over fine. Certainly a great setu...
What tube tester to buy?
At that price, probably not. (perhaps an emission tester...of limited value.). Spend $200-300 and get a TV-7 (preferably D/U). Great unit that will test almost anything you ever need to test. Nothing was made just to test 6922, or any particular t...
Do tube dampers really work?
Smacking the tubes while running is not an effective test of microphonics. Just a stupid thing to do. -Ed
Best Manufacturer's Website Features
I agree PDF manuals (service manuals would be nice too), and Good images are key. Martin Logan does a good job with this. CJ has a nice section on vintage products - also a good thing. For a few reasons, most sites will not have the following:* Su...
Who's Your Favorite Bass Players; Why?
How about: Victor Wooten. Or, Michael Arnopol. -Ed
You got $10000, build a system.
do a search, this sort of thing has been beaten to death. -Ed
Can I bi-wire Martin Logan CLS speakers?
I find it hard to believe 50wpc is not enough. I run my CLS with less than 20 and it's more than enough power for high volumes... (driven either by 845-based SET amps, 47Lab gaincard, etc. )The ML's don't do biamping or biwiring, but if you bridge...
Adding a step-up transformer
Check the new ones John Chapman is putting together, complete with cool little machined cases, etc.: http://www.bentaudio.com/Looks like great work, and the price is very right.-Ed
Anyone heard the Rogue Zuess???
I heard it at the Son et Image show in Canada. Ok sounding. Didnt' care for the aesthetic (or lack thereof). Generally, another big brute tube amp in a market already overpopulated with them. If I was shopping for one of these, I'd look @ CJ, BAT,...
How many AudiogoNers are amateur chefs?
Cooking is fun to be sure. I do a fair bit of it... lately been into Cambodian a lot, and some other asian cuisines. I *really* enjoy making sushi. I learned how, and then taught most of my friends who are also sushi addicts. Now, we rotate sushi ...
