Fedex Warning: $100 Limit Insurance on Ground I've gotten to the point where wooden crates are my preferred method for heavy stuff. I got a pair of tubed monoblocks (the Stippich amps), 140lb. each net...these were each boxed inside a crate (and bolted to it) made from 1/2 plywood and strappi...
How to interpret the readings from tube tester? RE: Calibration: Well, one knows it's calibrated from calibrating it (or having it done) from time to time. one of mine is easy to calibrate (Hickok 580), the other (TV-7) is more complex. But both are calibrated. RE: Matching - agreed, the only w...
How to interpret the readings from tube tester? Generally 104+ on a TV-7 indicates new spec for a 6SN7. (2600 umhos). 98/99 - a little lower than "new" but still very good, may be new in fact, since not all tubes (nor testers) will always test exactly the same. BTW, forget Upscale Audio for 6SN...
Efficient speakers for my 2A3's........ Hi - Yes, you are right - I dont' have kids (yet!). But, they are in the plans within the next few years, and I hopefully won't need to change my system or set up much. perhaps some kidproofing of the rooms...(or some rooms completely off limits) ...
Round 2: Tubes amps, no ss discussion I'd recommend stepping up the CJ line: get into some Premier monoblocks... all the virtues of the MV60 and then some. Of course, I am a bit biased as I have CJ Premier 5's (EL-34, 2 x 200wpc in UL, 2 x 100wpc or so in Triode mode). IMNSHO, some of...
Efficient speakers for my 2A3's........ Train the kids? Or just keep the door closed. No reason they should destroy stuff... hell, a little discipline goes a long way on that sort of thing. You deserve to have what you want with out compromising at least in that one room, I'd think... -Ed
Efficient speakers for my 2A3's........ Second the motion for Cain and Cain. I like their BEN speakers though, - more bass than Abby and nicer looking. I heard them at THE show and they were playing great with the Stippich 2A3 monos. Best sound at the show, IMHO. I may have to get a pai...
New SoundLab 'stat? I heard these at THE show. Not bad, esp. for the price. Unfortunately they had the playing with a huge pair of Bugtussell (?) subs, so I couldnt' get an exact read on what the speakers were like on the bottom end. Better sized for the room they we...
Where to buy a cheap relyable tube tester???? Do some searches on audioasylum.com.For $50 you are not going to get anything useful, IMHO. Better off just buying from reputable sellers unless you can budget a couple or three hundred for something good. (including calibration of it). Mutual con...
If you didn't go to CES check this out The stainless/copper amps are Josh Stippich's - IMNSHO, the best of show of any components I saw. (CES and THE combined). More of his work is at http://www.electronluv.com/, including the amps of his that I own. Nelson is a pretty cool guy, defini...
Best sounding room at CES 2003 My top two favorites: Cain&Cain and Josh Stippich's rooms in THE show, San Remo 928-929, and the Harbeth speakers in 804.runners up:Avantgarde trios with basshornsSoundlab M1 room (at THE, not Crump and Curl's room)47 Lab room-Ed
Piega's "New "Spk line: "Improved or Just Hype?" Since Sanibel sound (aka. Hifi farm) is importing/distributing it, there's probably a healthy dose of hype involved. -Ed
UPS strikes again Probably filing in small claims court at the same time as filing with UPS is a good idea. Gets you a definite time line for resolution, one way or another. No cost to you to do so.
Tube amps you have heard with Quad 989 I powered up a set with my CJ Premier 5s - it was very nice. 100wpc was more than enough (in triode mode). If it hadn't been I could have always switched back to Ultralinear for 200wpc. Ultimately I passed on the 989s, mostly for space/money reaso...
SACD Player w/Tube output & Bal out No reviews I have seen yet. The Tech guy Jay uses is quite impressed with it and I trust his judgement and credentials. The price can't be beat, really. MIke: yes, the tube shields will trap heat, not sink it really. They are more like insulators/... |
