Avalon or ProAc?
Let me add that I don't have much familiarity with the larger ProAcs (3.8, 4), mine is the two-way 2.5 (the Eclipse is also a two-way). Also, the Eclipse was and is about the most beautiful looking loudspeaker I know of. I loved having them as fur...
Avalon or ProAc?
I owned Eclipses for several years and was never really happy with them. A lot of factors certainly, including room issues (I could never get satifactory bass from them). I now own ProAc 2.5's and much prefer them. Your milege may vary, and obviou...
are we are own worst enemies?
Jadem6, a 40% markup as standard sounds awfully low to me. That would mean a product with dealer cost of $2000 would sell for $2800 after being marked-up 40%. A 40% margin (67% markup) seems more reasonable.
learning to listen
I suspect most adult Americans have slightly worse hearing in their left ears, the result of years of driving with the window down. And those of us who have attended loud rock concerts may have had uneven damage due to where we sat. These things m...
Ensemble or Hydra...
Is this an advertorial?Hiendpalace, if you are asking about the Shunyata Hydra, it is a power line conditioner (PLC), not a power cord (PC). Two different animals.
Wadia : what amp / preamp ?
Your amp choice should be dictated more by which speakers you use than what your source is, I would say. Regardless, you can't go wrong with the Placette preamp.
Pick one:Shunyata Hydra or PS Audio
I have a device called a Wattsup, which is a small box that goes between the wall and the device under test and gives a nice digital readout of power draw. It is sold mostly to schools as an educational device. I bought it specifically to measure ...
Pick one:Shunyata Hydra or PS Audio
The Power Plants draw less than many believe, but it is a consideration and one of the reasons why I've never been completely comfortable owning one, although I do (I also have a Hydra). The Power Plant 300 draws about 40 watts with nothing connec...
High end dealers in Frankfurt
Wow, the mother lode. Thank you, slawney!I'm also hoping to find Mephisto shoes in Frankfurt. I love them, but they are $300 here in the U.S. Last Fall I bought a pair for $160 in France (great exchange rate these days).

I saw that Uno during a layover there last September!
Girlfriends and wifes, how do YOU cope?
Bravo!
Placette Passive Pre
I have the Placette active, which is a no-gain but active (fully buffered) version of the product. It is terrific. I imagine the purely passive versions could have trouble in certain applications, depending on impedence, length of interconnects an...
How is the TacT RCS 2.0 as a pre amp vs
Lornecherry, with your SCD-1, you will feed the digital out for Redbook to the TacT for RCS and then either use its DAC or go to an outboard unit. But for SACD output, you don't have that option. You either need the A-D module in the TacT or you n...
Best match with Proac Response Series
I have 2.5s and am currently playing with 3 different amps: CJ11a, Pass Aleph 3, and Pass X-150. You know what? The 2.5s sound wonderful with all of them. I wonder if it's possible to get this terrific speaker to *not* make music with any decent a...
How is the TacT RCS 2.0 as a pre amp vs
I also have the dual mono active. When I get my new TacT, I will certainly try the configuration you describe
