Greatest Songwriter of all time
Dylan, without question. I continue to be shocked by the sheer number of great songs he has penned, many of which were made "hits" by other artists (hell, some artists built their careers largely on the back of Bob tunes). Garcia-Hunter deserve me...
The Best of Naxos' classical catalog
Gregm, Sugarbrie, can you recommend any favorite Decca/London reissues?
The Best of Naxos' classical catalog
I have bought several of them and appreciate that they offer some slightly obscure things, such as the Bax, some Gerald Finzi (I love Gerald Finzi), and others (I think these things are somehat obscure). Price is great, what have you got to lose? ...
Rock and Roll System
I think the ATC suggestion is an excellent one. Another possiblity: speakers from Meyer Sound. This is pro gear and it seems to be what goes into every high-end sound reinforcement setting I see these days. A friend of mine has a pair of small one...
Basis 1400/benz/rb250/300
While I don't have direct experience, I did a lot of research on the Basis and rega arms a while back. My conclusion was that your best bet is to stay with the rb250 and to apply the $200 to upgrading it with one of the aftermarket counterwieghts ...
Best Pre-amp under 2k-USED
I had an Adcom 750 for a couple of years and thought it was great. That is, until I heard the Placette. Tubes may beat the living crap out of anything solid state, but you have to like the sound of tubes. The Adcom in passive mode does very, very ...
Jazz Recommendations
I just picked up a new CD that I want to mention. It's McCoy Tyner plays John Coltrane, featuring McCoy with Al Foster and George Mraz (is there a better rhythm section?), recorded live at the Village Vanguard in 1997. The recording was direct to ...
Which record brush?
I sort of suspected that at the time, but I'm an easy mark for these tweek products. Think I should have it cryo treated? :-)
Which record brush?
I agree with fzxguy, the design of the Hunt strikes me as silly. The AQ is similar in design to the Decca, which I also like. Tangent: I just picked up the Zerodust stylus cleaner from Music Direct. This thing costs $70 and probably should cost $3...
pass all class-A amps X-200 & X-150
I believe they are called the XA-200 and XA-150.
Jeff Rowland 8Ti still available?
I have to wonder about that since, as I understand it, the XA amps (at least the first ones) are outrageously expensive.
Linn Ittok LV II -- removable DIN-connected cable?
Thanks musicdoc and mg. MG, your note of caution reminds me why I wish I didn't have a Linn. I have a manual, but I'm not sure I want to even get involved.
my Talon Khorus sounds bad
Slaufer, this is off-topic, but I would love to hear a thumbnail comparison of all of those speakers you owned and evaluated. Strengths & weaknesses, that sort of thing. If you have the time.--dan
PS Audio Power Port vs. Hubbell/Leviton
I just ordered a FIM from Galen. It is $55, not $60 as I said before. One of those tweak impulse buys.
PS Audio Power Port vs. Hubbell/Leviton
FIM has an outlet for about $60, which Galen Carol really raved about in his last newsletter.
