Direct Drive
"If you want to buy a direct drive turntable you might as well buy a digital front end - its the same sound." That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard! Just because a TT maintains perfect speed as the better DD tables are prone to due ...
What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
If analog could not compete quite simply we wouldn't be having this conversation! Instead it would simply be gone and no further talk about it other than historical context. Indeed, and many musicians, famous and not so famous, who still prefer...
What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
from many years now all financial transactions in the world including corporation as Wall Street used and are using DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY  That seems a bit myopic - don't you know many "financial transactions" are completed through hawala compared...
What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
Only to relate that digital is everywhere. Same wit medical instruments or robotics. Stupidity is everywhere too, but we don't aspire to that standard. You'll have to come up with a better argument than that.
''retip'', ''rebuild'' or ''refreshment'' by brother Bross
@nandric  The original Garrot Bros used to retip Koetsu's with their microscanner styli and also made modifications as and when necessary to the motors due to poor build quality.  However the issue remains - with a retip are you going to end up ...

What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
@goofyfoot  You might be amused to know that Decca, in the 1950's, before stereo became common, often recorded in stereo but released in mono because they thought they would have to pay the musicians double if the musicians knew they were being r...
What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
Amazing. We used to have digiphobes in the 80's, now we have analphobes. This is supposed to be a thread about cartridges and it gets invaded by some wags who seem to have got lost - there is a digital forum for you guys. If any of you actually...
Alta Vista NP-100 input impedance?
All the Counterpoint power amps SA12, SA20 etc including the later NPS series were 100k input impedance. I’d be surprised if you had any issues since the NP upgrades were designed with the same Counterpoint preamps in mind.
Micro Max 282 vs. Exclusive EA-10
@edgewear  @downunder has been running a Pioneer P3/EA10 for some years. You might try to PM him. I found this on the web .. Original Pioneer part is GEM1058, which is 200 000 cst. I use silicone oil from 20 000 to 50 000 cst
Added an SUT...not sure I understood this
@woofhaven1992  You remain incorrect, however, about the correct loading with the SP14, which contains neither a head-amp or an SUT built in.   Wrong. The SP14 has a FET based input at the front end of the phono stage., Its same principle as a...
FR64 to FR66 conversion Analogmagik
In my view you should consider that the FR64S will be more compatible with a wider variety of TT's than the FR66S due to the 12 inch arm not fitting many TT's. Is a small improvement worth the downside. Also you have an increase in effective mas...
Added an SUT...not sure I understood this
@intactaudio  I concur with lew and it makes no sense to me how a loading a cartridge can have different "ideal" values for different amplification types. Wrong. That is not what @lewm said. He said - I’ve never understood why the minimum lo...
Added an SUT...not sure I understood this
@intactaudio  Lets get back to the simple question I asked....  If going well below a cartridge manufacturers load is not recommended, how can we reconcile the use of transimpedance amplification or in your case a load that is 1.7X the cartridge...
Added an SUT...not sure I understood this
@woofhaven1992  Looks like you've got the wrong cartridge. You claimed to have an ATOC9XML Paoerwork here   Note the recommended minimum load is 100ohms as I posted. The paperwork you have posted appears to be from the ATOC9ML/II which i...
