Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Lewm, a friend had a Grace 714 many years ago. Used a Garrot P77 with some success. The arm is not particularly rigid and gives a warm soft mellifluous presentation. I would not use a MC with it.
"Violinists blast holes in violin experiment"
I have read that violinists spend hours, days, weeks "working in" their instruments in order to be able to get the response & feel they are looking for. That is if someone, even another virtuoso, picked up Nigel Kennedy's violin and played it ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
fyi -Re Garrot P77 - I heard this cartridge in the Garrot Bros own system which was an old tt with a heavily modified Nad 3020 and home made electrostatics built by Brian, John's brother. The odd thing was that in their system the P77 sounded like...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
The reality is these cartridge manufacturers want to sell as many as possible, that means producing products that will sound great, even in suboptimal set ups ( which in my experience includes many audiophile's ). Look how many ways are there real...

Atmasphere - I think you are too optimistic on the quality of the US power supply. The US grid is split into 4 quadrants and the supply agreements in place with the power providers have delivery standards etc, but there are NO standards in the agr...

Lrsky/Lewm - my money on an 80's demonstration by Magnepan would be an Oracle Delphi tt with the Magnepan unipivot tonearm, this was a popular combo of that era in the US if you weren't in the Linn/Sota camp.

Lewm, Which of the 3 tt's the Lenco L75, Technics SP10mk3, Kenwood L07D do you find the most musically satisfying. Have you ended up with same or different sounding decks, or through choice of arm/cartridge deliberately tried to dial in different ...
What's the best unipivot to arm ever made?
There is no best or perfect unipivot, or even tonearm. The performance of any tonearm has to be viewed in the context of the rest of the playback system - the cartridge and the turntable. How has the cartridge designer dealt with unwanted energy -...
What's the best unipivot to arm ever made?
"i use 15ips 1/4 inch master tape dubs as my reference and the Telos is as good as those in my system."Mike have you cut records from the master tapes in question. If any tt front end can be as good as a master tape in your system then that sugges...
Some tables have soul and some not
"They have no soul, turntables are not 'voiced' to do anything except play LPs"Actually that's not correct. No component is perfect and any finished component represents a series of design compromises that have been chosen by the designer. The des...

Halcro - looks like the 2 threads are touching. If so you might want to put a shim under one of the motors to lift it slightly and separate the threads. Would be interesting to try 1 motor/thread. Cheers.
Sirius and Walker
Lewm, agree somethings afoot, big communication breakdown here. Nobody wins.

Halcro - great game eh. Looks like Dokovich has shown the others how to beat Nadal - ie hard and flat if they can maintain it. Re the bearing, it's a bit of a red herring - I only meant to communicate that in the case of the Final there is high in...

Halcro, it is a tragicomedy, perhaps the brass and woodwinds are just not getting on with the stringed instruments.Could be any number of reasons, but most thread drives are designed with high mass platters and very small concave pulleys. I have t...
Eminent Technology ET-2 Tonearm Owners
From the arm tube to the plinth and the energy resonances measured were very close, ie transmission rate was very high.
