Turntable speed accuracy
Halcro great to see you trying the thread drive. The pulley shape should be concave for thread drive so it self centres and does not ride up and down.Dev I have been using my thread drive final audio Parthenon for over 20 yrs with silk thread , su...

MC versus MM. Which to choose.
Stltrains - actually I agree. I have heaps of fun with vintage gear, and it's rewarding when it all comes to together. One thing though, I wont buy second hand cartridges as a rule, my records are irreplaceable.

Using Test LP - curious observations
Hi all - Antiskate - "In most turntables, as a result of the angle between the line tangent to the record grooves and a line connecting the stylus tip to the tone arm pivot point, a skating force is developed that tends to force the tone arm towar...
Well Tempered Signature turntable and arm
Original WT came out mid/late 80's looked like Classic. I'm very rusty but from memory models wereWell Tempered ( original ) - there were some upgrades, a dished platter and clamp came out and then from memory a black platter. The Well Tempered Rec...
Tannoy Prestige line: Westminister and down
Watchtimes - In Europe I heard both the Stirling and Turnberry against the $35k Triangle Megallens. There is a sense of ease and coherence with Tannoys that for me they can hold their own against speakers much more expensive. You wont get trouser ...
Tannoy Prestige line: Westminister and down
Totally disagree with the last post. I have 3 pairs of Tannoys - 2 pairs of 15" Monitor Golds in 240 litre cabinets - about the size of the Canterbury and 10" monitors. The larger ones worked perfectly in a room 17' x 13' x 8'.The magic is in the ...
Well Tempered Signature turntable and arm
I owned the original Well Tempered years ago, and sold and set up quite a few over the years. The latest golfball version is a joke. It is simply an exercise of how to reduce the manufacturing costs and claim it's better. I would rather have the o...
MC versus MM. Which to choose.
And for the outlay and value of the time spent buying a cache of MM's, rebuilding your amplifier and shagging around setting them up, would probably have paid for an Olympus/Connoisseur, and then you could have spent all that time listening to mus...
VPi HW 19 jr upgrade
Guys - for suspended turntables the bearing/arm are mounted on a subchassis. In the case of the VPI it is a "floating sub-chassis" - it has either springs or sorbathane between the subchassis and plinth. The wooden frame and base are the plinth.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hi Lewm, unfortunately my Dynavector is not mounted at the moment but I will try this at some stage. The Dynavector arm has a 2.5 degree error built in at the outer edge of the record to accommodate the Stevenson - ie straight in headshell, assumi...
Help Identify These TANNOY GRF's
Hi Tannoy made 3 types of GRF speakers - GRF Rectangular, GRF Corner Horn and GRF Pro.These are Tannoy GRF Rectangular Speakers. The drivers are 15" Monitor Red's. The Reds preceded the Monitor Gold's and have a 15 ohm input impedance. You need to...
Magnepan 3.6, 3.7 or Tannoy Westminister SE
I prefer Tannoys as I listen to a lot of orchestral and to me the Tannoys produce a more effortless presentation of a full orchestra and a more seemless and coherent sound. If you do listen to the Tannoys though I would recommend you listen to the...
MC versus MM. Which to choose.
You guys are doing the gentleman who started this a great disservice. If he is still with us then we are lucky he hasn't given up on analogue and spent his money on CD.Jonathan Carr is absolutely spot on when he says "The tracking ability of a car...
