SME 20/2 Finger Lift Hum Rsnoceanview - good luck, I know how frustrating this can be.
Lyra Delos Settings Jonathan - Your comments are always full of nuggets ( gold ).Quick question, with my Marantz 7, it has enough gain ( and dynamics ) for cartridges from about .3 up. I prefer MC's that will run at 47k to avoid loading down and reducing the apparent...
SME 20/2 Finger Lift Hum Lewm, not quite correct. Additional observations were I was explaining to the gentleman why touching the SME armtube did not induce hum - anodising.Provided additional options for insulation on the arm for aesthetics - get a painted one or use hea...
Lyra Delos Settings Agiacco - you would be best running through all the settings yourself. Although this is tedious you will learn a lot and it is really the only way to find the optimum set up in your system. Even if you found someone with an identical system, if th...
SME 20/2 Finger Lift Hum If the SME V arm tube is anodised, then this explains why it doesn't hum when touched- anodising gives a non conducting surface. The question here is what finger lift are you using. It would seem to me when you are touching the arm lift or cartrid...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Lewm, lightweight headshell suggestion - buy a few Sumiko headshells ( they have azimuth adjustment ) 14g and drill holes in them to reduce weight. I have the low weight Orsonic - it's useless - not particularly rigid on the dynavector arm. It's v...

Low vs. High Output MC Cartridges Hi - the answer is that the lower output requires less number of coils and due to the lower mass of the moving coils can be quicker than the higher output MC. The downside of the lower output is the requirement for a higher gain phono stage. Some ...
Rebuilding a Benz Ebony H: Who can do it? When you bought this you were offered a rebuild program as part of the purchase consideration. You should be able to get a replacement cartridge for the cost of a rebuild if they cannot rebuild it as advertised when you bought it.
Lyra Olympos SL: Discontinued? So we've been to the mountain, and now, we are promised the world .....but delivered an Atlas.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Lewm, - Grace 714 - I should have been clearer on "not particularly rigid". In the sample I've seen and set up there was a lack of rigidity around the headshell area.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Lewm, a friend had a Grace 714 many years ago. Used a Garrot P77 with some success. The arm is not particularly rigid and gives a warm soft mellifluous presentation. I would not use a MC with it.
"Violinists blast holes in violin experiment" I have read that violinists spend hours, days, weeks "working in" their instruments in order to be able to get the response & feel they are looking for. That is if someone, even another virtuoso, picked up Nigel Kennedy's violin and played it ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? fyi -Re Garrot P77 - I heard this cartridge in the Garrot Bros own system which was an old tt with a heavily modified Nad 3020 and home made electrostatics built by Brian, John's brother. The odd thing was that in their system the P77 sounded like...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? The reality is these cartridge manufacturers want to sell as many as possible, that means producing products that will sound great, even in suboptimal set ups ( which in my experience includes many audiophile's ). Look how many ways are there real... |
