Worst CD player Conrad Johnson. Sorry, I know their amps/preamps are great, but the tubed DAC and transport I paid $3600 for 15 years ago were the absolute pits. Not just poor sounding -- laid back to a fault, uninvolving, just plain blah -- but unreliable to boo...
Need help on Aesthetix Callisto sgn. Call Glenn. Nobody here knows as much as he does.
Over 55? - You Gotta See This I could have sworn I saw this before. Can't remember where or when, though.
Best suitable 845 Tubes for NAF 845 SE I'm currently using Psvane 845T tubes from Grant Fidelity and like them better than any others I've tried. BUT I've bought a lot of 845s from Sophia and never blew any (over an 8-year period) while one of the 845Ts died after 14 months. So I would...
Electronic stylus force gauge question Just to add to the fun, I have three arms mounted on two tables, and in each case, my cheap digital scale tells me that the VTF varies depending on where I put the scale on the respective turntables. That is, it measures slightly differently depen...
Opinions? Re-thinking my Gallo reference 3.5's. Bear in mind that the 5LS (what you're calling the Ref 5) uses the same mids and tweeters as the older Ref 3/3.0/3.1 speakers, plus a bunch of 4" "woofers" pointing to the rear. I heard the 5LS speakers a couple years ago when I was using Ref 3s w...
Opinions? Re-thinking my Gallo reference 3.5's. Your new Gallos will sound okay out of the box and then go into an extended break-in period during which they will sound pretty awful, so don't decide whether you like them or not until they have AT LEAST 100 hours on them. The owner's manual will...
Music that everyone else loves but you just don't Rickie Lee Jones. I'm fine with others that seem to generate a lot of dislike: Diana Krall and Patricia Barber, for instance. I love Ella and Sarah at their best, and Eva Cassidy and Holly Cole. But Rickie Lee's voice and (especially) mannerisms d...
Thanks for your help I agree. He's great to deal with and his prices are right. Dave
Anyone have experience with "burn-in generators"? Very ingenious, Bob. I did sorta the same thing, but plugged the RCAs attached to the cart clips into my Frycleaner. I burned in the phono interconnects separately, but I see how you could do them at the same time.
Anyone have experience with "burn-in generators"? An addendum to Ivan nosnibor's post, with which I agree. It's particularly important to cook phono cables, the ones used from a cart/tonearm to a phonostag,e because the signal they carry is so minuscule that the cables never get really broken-in ...
Setting Azimuth I have a Zephyr and a Counter Intuitive on my JMW 10.5i arm and had little difficulty setting azimuth with my Fozgometer. Peter Ledermann does have reservations (which I've forgotten) about the Fozgometer, by the way.I love this cart/arm combo but...
Anyone have experience with "burn-in generators"? I've had a Hagerman "Frykleaner Gold" for years and wouldn't be without it. Neither, it seems, would my audiobuddy friends, who have borrowed it a lot :-)
Gallo REf 3.1 Stands? I don't think you'd gain anything by damping the stands. I have the ones Pierre Sprey (Mapleshade) designed for your speakers and I'm sure he would be appalled at the idea. Great speakers, especially with the stands. I've moved on to the Gallo Str...
Ahmad Jamal: Blue Moon "Rossiter Road" is my favorite Jamal, and I have many of his. |
