Impressed by Pangea Audio AC-9SE
The AC-9SE is definitely the real deal, IMHO. I had wired my amps and regenerating power conditioner -- PS Audio P10 -- with the earlier AC-9 and tried one SE version (on the P10) just to see if I could tell the difference. There was enough that I...
"Not paypal"
I'm really not interested in life without PayPal. Been there, did that.
Raysonic gone belly up, is this a hoax? Read on...
Just to be clear, I wasn't defending the company up above in praising my Ray 128. Whatever happened, the employees obviously built some great products and should take pride in that. Curiously, the innards and outsides of my Raysonic look almost ex...

Sorry to hear about this. My Raysonic 128 is unquestionably the best sounding player I've owned and has been flawless over the last 5-6 years.
Pangea AC-9SE vs AC-9
I was the first responder on this thread and subsequently bought 3 of the SE version and like them better than the originals. I didn't note any difference in stiffness when I replaced the AC-9s with AC-9SEs.
Gallo Stradas vs. Merlin TSM-MXRs
Marty, you're right. The Stradas absolutely demand a subwoofer. One is okay, two are much better. The drivers of the TR-3 subs are identical to the woofers in the Gallo Ref 3.5s, by the way.
Gallo Stradas vs. Merlin TSM-MXRs
The Gallo Strada floor mounts (as opposed to the floor stands that raise the speakers 4' or so) are just fine if you enjoy listening while seated on the floor. Pierre Sprey (Mapleshade) is a strong advocate of this low-listening position. Not me.
Gallo Stradas vs. Merlin TSM-MXRs
I own a pair of Stradas and their floor mounts (with modded brass spikes from Eden Sound), plus a pair of Gallo TR-3 subs. I have only heard the larger (VSM?) Merlin speakers -- in a wildly different system -- but I'd put the Gallos up against the...
I would advise to avoid amazon for vinyl purchases
Just to second Adam18's attaboy for Dusty Groove America. IME, you can trust their ratings of used records. I've bought a lot of their VG-rated LPs and have yet to be disappointed (as everybody probably knows, VG means Very Grungy to a lot of sell...
I would advise to avoid amazon for vinyl purchases
I've had good luck buying vinyl through Amazon. Their packaging has improved a lot compared to the first ones I ordered, but none of the actual LPs was damaged in any way, or warped.
deHavilland Mercury Type 85 tubes - Help needed
Have you asked Kara Chaffee at deHavilland?
Looking for new places to buy vinyl
Dusty Groove America (Google it). Their VG-rated LPs have been VERY GOOD, despite what you usually see with this rating. Get on their list and receive weekly notice of their offerings, which include detailed descriptions of the music. No good for ...
Hook Up Revox Reel-to-Reel to Tube Preamp
I want to correct an error in my post. The Revox tape decks have RCA connections, not XLR (I was confusing it with my Otari deck).
Best Customer Service
Add Aesthetix to the list. Oppo has been pretty good too.
Hook Up Revox Reel-to-Reel to Tube Preamp
Are you planning to record with it or simply to play back existing tapes? If for playback, simply connect the Revox outputs to any line-level inputs on the preamp (you'll need a XLR-to-RCA adapter at the Revox end). Recording will likely be more d...
