Did the Old Receivers Sound Good? They had character. You knew it was a Marantz when you heard it, a Sansui, an Onkyo, a Kenwood, or a Mac. Each had its own sound. I don’t know if you can really compare that in todays terms…..they all sound more alike in my opinion.
How much does a DAC do the more expensive it is? I think it’s more about features or decoding the latest file rather than sound.
Putting a new end on a XLR cable Tara Labs is a pretty good company and they should be able to fix the cable under warranty or relatively inexpensively. Did they really say that it would be $500 to fix the cable? If they did I find that hard to believe.
Upgrade to McIntosh I think you’ll be very happy with your mc275. In my vintage system I have an mx110z with two mc30s driving Sonus Faber Venere S speakers and the sound is wonderful. My main is a c2300 with an mc500 driving Tannoy Churchill’s and I couldn’t be happ...
How long do speakers last? Speakers can last a lifetime. Recone, recap, etc..
What is your experience with the Spin Clean? I loved my spin clean. It did a good job but was a lot of manual work. You could really see that it was cleaning by how the water looked. I still have it for pre cleaning really dirty records. I upgraded to an Audiodeske System cleaner and I must ...
Tube DACs I don’t think there’s anything wrong with running a tube dac through a tube pre, unless the point is there’s no need to do that, because you you already get tube sound through the pre. I agree that there’s synergy in coupling tube components toge...
Where do you stop? Silver works great in systems that are not analytical, ie warm. Mixtures of silver and other metals like copper a gold can have great effects on sound ie Siltech cables. Too much silver can cause a system to sound “shrill” or overly bright. Moral ...
I Was Stunned I use a rack made by Mapleshade, Amish craftmen. Sort of a blend of untilitairian and elegant. Thick maple slabs, large poles holding the slabs that can be adjusted, spiked to the floor. It’s made to help drain micro vibrations from your component...
Did vinyl sales just hit the proverbial brick wall? Cassettes …..wow. I don’t know about everyone else but I’m not going back there.
So Weird- No Stylus Contact Woofer Pumping with Hana ML and Elac PPA-2 +1 @cleeds feedback. Your turntable is too close to something like a speaker etc.
Looking For 18awg Audiophile Power Cable Options 18 g is pretty thin……
Power conditioner wire gauge? Serious issue I don’t think you have anything to worry about.
Alterra Anyone? Nordost offers the same kind of system. Shunyata is probably trying to compete. I use their conditioners and power cords and am well pleased with the results. Although I haven’t tried these types of grounding system I’m sure there’s some merit bu...
Do I buy an upscale TT? I think you’d be better off assessing what you currently have and make modifications or tweaks that would help you achieve the sound you are looking for. For example cartridge, cables, arm. speed controller, damping, feet the list goes on. Rarely ... |
