Best Platter Material Stanwal is absolutely right. I would never have thought, for instance, that a solid state phono preamp could satisfy me. Tube are better than SS. That's until I heard an ASR Basis. Now tubes be damned (sort of). It's all execution. And also execut...

Arm Recommendation for Moerch UP4 Owner Well said, Hifiharv. I'm guessing you are right.
Arm Recommendation for Moerch UP4 Owner By the way, I've also tried an SME 309 and IV, but didn't like the SME sound.
Stand out phono stages I feel like at the level of phono stage we are all talking about here, it's more about system matching than what is "the best." My system is a little on the dark side and I've used many tube phono stages and now I'm finding that a solid state phon...
Is there a good, affordable, phono cable option? For an LP12, you are better off buying the correct Linn Cable because the clamp is designed to hold the cable properly for the best "bounce." You can usually find a proper LP12 tonearm cable on ebay for less than $75 and it's going to save you a l...
Different Results between Record Cleaning Machines My upgrade from VPI 16 to Loricraft was worth every penny, even buying new. It just brought my system to a new level of quiet. The lower noise floor, even with records that appear to be clean, allows me to listen even deeper into the layers of the...
Svetlana KT-88 I would look at the KT120. It's far superior sonically in both of my KT88 and 6550 amps.
soundsmith retip shelter 301? I have to go with Stringreen on this one at least in my case. I retipped a Lyra Helikon. I sounded good but it wasn't a Helikon anymore. Certain things are just different and I imagine it's not the same with all cartridges but you have to be aware...
Best Record You Have Ever heard I gotta go with Randy Travis, Storms of Life. I have an original pressing. It's my wife's kind of music but it has grown on me because the record is so well recorded and so nicely balanced top to bottom. Sparkly top end, silky smooth mids and punc...
Record Cleaner Fluid suggestions I've used L'Art du Son for years as a simple one step cleaner with my Loricraft and it's the best fluid I've used. You can leave it on 2-4 or 5 with a rinse or not. I almost always just apply and vacuum, nothing else, except if the record is visib...
Great Low Cost Phono Stage Recommendation For You I said it sounded good RELATIVE to other low cost phono stages that I've tried over the years. It's hardly comparable to the V1, a Herron, Aestetix, etc. or even an ASR Mini Basis Exclusive all of which I've heard. I was just pleasantly surprised ...
Great Low Cost Phono Stage Recommendation For You No, I find the Vinyl One to be terrific I'm sure others can back me up on this, but phono stages are to me the most system dependent pieces. The V1 is so rich and smooth and tactile and real sounding that I've never found anything in my price rang...
Favorite I miss my LP12 but without a reliable setup guy nearby, I had to make a change :(
Is 60dB gain enough for Kleos? FWIW, my Delos and before it a Helikon sounded great in three different unipivots so I'm not sure it's a general unipivot thing. |
