12" Tonearms for TD-124
That's true, but at 14gm vs. 18gm for M2, the 3012R should be more versatile.  With a heavy headshell it should do a 103R.  With lighter headshells I've had good results from MM/MI to MC from Stanton 981LZS, Ortofon MC2000, AT ART7, AT33MONO, to G...
12" Tonearms for TD-124
If you lean toward the M2-12R, you might look further into the 3012R.  Before purchasing mine I probed the web and a few SME leathernecks who have experienced both an prefer the knife bearing and lower effective mass of the original 3012R.
12" Tonearms for TD-124
i would look no further than a SME 3012R.  I've got two on the same table as an 11"  Kuzma 4Point.  The 3012R holds its own with the 4P and works equally well with cartridges of widely varying compliance.
A new player in the quality Mono cartridge game
Lewm, FWIW the AT33MONO has turned my world upside down-- or at least tilted it 45 degrees-- w/r to mono records.  By comparison a fine stereo cartridge playing a mono record sounds disorganized, desiccated, and noisy in the grooves.  Well worth a...
I Dislike new format
This was the most important feature of the old forum layout and a significant loss.
How much difference if the tonearm is mounted 5mm
The db protractor finds correct null points from pretty much any pivot-to-spindle distance within the range of your headshell.
A new player in the quality Mono cartridge game
JohnnyB53, thanks for this thread. Today I mounted a $327 AT33MONO ebayed from Japan to a SME 3012R. Very impressive sound, even at zero hrs. Next step was a complete sort through the jazz collection to extract all mono LPs for further listening. ...
Girlfriends and wifes, how do YOU cope?
Some have trouble with thick cables lying naked on a living room floor. The best rationalize a man's hobby interests as benign relative to womanizing.
Anyone Attend RMAF?
I went this year. Consumer attendance seemed at least 25% lighter than my last visit in 2013. With the large headphone show in a separate dedicated banquet room, it has really become two different shows of markedly different demographics: one youn...
Does alcohol impair appreciation of sound?
I had an uncle who when under the influence, liked to switch to eyeglasses of a different prescription. He called this special pair his "drinking glasses." There is probably an analogy for audio...
Best Rock Album of 2015
It's a strange band and certainly not for everyone. I group them with The Flaming Lips and The Eels, though better than the others when they're(sic) at their best.BTW I totally agree with your prior recommendation of Kintsugi. I had lost track of ...
Best Rock Album of 2015
+1 Star Wars, but topped by Mercury Rev 'The Light in You.' True to their lyric "psychedelic rock and blue-eyed soul." When they're not too Peter Pan, they hit a long ball into R&R."The tone arm moves, the vinyl cracklesAnd suddenly I'm not al...
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ...
I was considering ART9 for comparison to my ART7, but decided instead to test the AT value proposition against a more expensive LOMC. An Accuphase AC-5 just arrived. It seems an apt choice, as both cartridges are obscure and rather low output offe...
Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD
George & Al, Thanks. I'll revisit the Theta.
Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD
Georgelofi, do you recall if the Theta Gen Va is an R2R? I can't find a spec, but there are some on the forums who believe so. I have one in storage that I haven't listened to in years. If it's an R2R then I'll dust it off for comparison to K-01X.
