In Memoriam: Bobby Palkovich of Merlin Music
Sad for his passing. He was among the best of the cottage industry builders who spanned the full arc of the high-end segment since the '80s. Unfortunately that business model is becoming harder to sustain. RIP Bobby.
Best Rock Album of 2015
Gregg Allman Live-Back to Macon, GA January 14, 2014. A strong live album accompanied by an eight piece band and some very tasty brass. Excellent SQ on double vinyl.
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ...
Hard to guess whether ART 7 is trickle down or an improvement over AT50ANV. I have an ART 7. The bodies of both are aluminum and plastic. The main difference appears to be(from AT web site):"This product(ART 7) keeps the basic design of non magnet...
cartiage for Kenwood L07D genuine tone arm
Jagdzaku, I wouldn't let the stock tonearm discourage purchase of an LO7D. It is a superb TT, even without the arm. If you have access to a machinist, it is feasible to devise a generic turntable mount that will clamp down into the stock tonearm p...
How an audio rack can enhance your amp/pre
After a week acclimating to the SS Rhythm RP-5 rack I'm starting to tweak. At Starsound's suggestion, I moved the K-01X CDP from the top shelf down one shelf in order to bring it inside the rack. This is a surprising improvement-- uncanny timbres,...
MM cartridges
I'm listening to a Signet TK100LC right now. Incredible cartridge. Consider returning to MM with a vintage/new production hybrid-- an ebayed Grace F9 body with a Soundsmith turnkey OCL Ruby stylus assembly. Gets close to TOTL MM for around $600 in...
"Amused To Death" 2015
I was eyeing it at my local indie record store this week, but balked at the picture disk format wrapped in rudimentary clear poly. Looking forward to others' opinions before jumping in. I have the 1991 SBM gold-disc version of this. Maybe the LP r...
Most suitable and effective isolation platform
Yeah, and starting to sound like a broken record.
How an audio rack can enhance your amp/pre
Tbg, I'll start tweaking soon from six to five, five to four, etc. Also, I want to try relocating the CDP to a lower shelf, which SS suggests may improve performance.
How an audio rack can enhance your amp/pre
The K-01X presents a perfectly flat bottom surface, and the machined tolerances of the SS APs and coupling disks are obviously very tight in order to allow six points of contact without shims.
How an audio rack can enhance your amp/pre
Tbg, my experience accords with yours that Stillpoints can be sensitive to the surfaces on which they are placed-- notwithstanding that the stated feature of their "technology" is to dissipate vertical transmission horizontally though friction wit...
How an audio rack can enhance your amp/pre
I have a rough clone of Geofkait's Machina Dynamica soft spring platform under my L07D TT that I think addresses the dual problem of earth-borne and TT-propagated vibrations. Earth-borne vibrations are converted into very low frequency spring osci...
Esoteric need a pre-amp?
With K-01X Esoteric dropped the internal volume control feature that was formerly in K-01. While I don't need that feature, I do wish the K-01X had the ability to change between the selectable up-sampling and filter options via remote control. Tha...
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ...
Scm, I think 72db is sufficient, as my preamp's 76db gain is adequate for the MC2000-- which at .05mV has under half the .12mV output of ART7. However, but before trying it would be wise to check if the background noise level of the ASR Basis beco...
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ...
Congratulations on your ART9. It's great to see these favorably compared to some of the big boy MCs. I've had an ART7 for a few years. It runs with the best of my mostly vintage collection(Ortofon MC2000, Signet TK100LC, Grace F9 with Soundsmith O...
