Vinyl and slurring S'es
Paulwp has said it all in my opinion. I would have told you exactly the same. Cheers,
Tubes Do It -- Transistors Don't.
I am a vinyl and tube man, that stated, I find that SS has improved tremendously over the last two decades, so that basically the old dichotomy no longer holds true. I suggest you listen to a well set up Spectral system through very revealing spea...
Quad 988 / 989 reliability ??
Steve, I'll grant you that I'm more than a tad emotional regarding this question. However there is no doubt, that we both love the way these transducers make the music sing. Cheers,
Quad 988 / 989 reliability ??
Steveboeck, I've had and have Sound Labs, MLs, Servostatics, StaxF1 and the Stax stacked, Dutch ELS, the name of which I don't recall, as well as the Quads in all configurations. Sound Labs (Pristine) and Staxes have been completely unproblematic,...
Ever wonder why things are screwed up?
Thankyou Albert! I never learnt so much in so little time!
Quad 988 / 989 reliability ??
Lets not glide into a thread of dealer- and Quad bashing. The Quad 63's midrange to my ears still clobbers most of even the most vaunted cones, inspite of what my esteemed beemer riding colleague cares to point out. I fully agree with him though o...
Quad 988 / 989 reliability ??
I fully agree with Hififarm. I can compare the 989 side by side with the 63, as far as sound, workmanship and quality of parts, as well as reliability are concernend and I regret the day for my part, on which I took in a pair of the 989s. Period.
I wanna hear some "audio" jokes...and
True story:An enamoured audiophile led the adored one into his music room, to beguile her with some music, he had carefully selected before. The lady looked around and and accusingly said: "This room is full of electro-smog. I'll not sit here for ...
Best Beethoven Symphonies? Karajan?
...and even if you were, Sugarbrie, the set is already on its way to me, (-: Cheers,
Best Beethoven Symphonies? Karajan?
Thanks Sugarbrie, must hunt this up. Am very familiar with Weller as a violinist, love especially his playing in Schubert's Quintet in C, didn't know he took to conducting later, like most of his breed. Cheers,
What is "critical listening"?
ASA: Ca va sens dire! Great to have you on this thread and your point is well made and taken!
Sub-woofers to go with Quad 988 / 989 ?
The Quads are VERY difficult to mate with subs, because most subs cannot keep up with their purity and speed. I've tried Entecs, but their cutoff frequency was too high and the X-over well to put it mildly ruined the Quads sound. So NEVER, ever us...
Best Beethoven Symphonies? Karajan?
Furtwaengler, Toscanini, 63 and ONLY 63 Karajan, yes, Solti, Bruno Walter, especially the 6th, Abbado with the Berlin Philharmonics is a revelation musically, but the recording, DGG on DDD is pretty awful, his rendering however of practically all ...
Is it worth it to buy the Cable Cooker?
Three days ago, I promised to report on my findings in trying out the AudioDharma cable cooker:1. Before any cooking carefully balancing out the entire system with an old 1966 MONO recording of Brazilian music, with a female singer called Nara, wh...
What is "critical listening"?
Sugarbrie, you make a fascinating point, which my thoughts only brushed briefly, when I wrote my post. In the sense you write, I would agree with you: In music lover mode critical listening in fact does not stop, but with me, it then goes right in...
