How do you get the "real" feel of music?
You need speakers with a fast response, which go down low and which move a lot of air...and for those rimshots ...don't laugh...a tweeter,( and a good midrange driver of course ) which can handle real fast transients.
Inter-connects? Speaker cable? for Quad gear
Apoman, Electrostats are tricky with wires and need very careful consideration, especially as far as speaker cables are concerned. I've had excellent results (Quads) with the top of the line NORDOSTS, both IC's and speaker cables, but they are exp...
Spectral DMC 12, 20 or 30 preamp?
The day that Spectral gear sounded "whitish" (HP of TAS) and thin are long over. To my ears and mind, Shubertmaniac, is absolutely right. As far as I can see,Robert, in your system the DMC 12 would be just fine. However, one day you might wish to ...
Is it possible for something to be the best?
Sean, exactly...and undoubtedly it is "musical". (Just to have the last word...(-; ..)
Most Sublime Beethoven Symphony
Abado and the Berlin Symph. on DGG. All symphonies. Unfortunately the recording-job is hideous! Flat and lifeless. CD sound exacerbated. But the renderings are superb, worth listening into, once you get over the initial anger about the sound.
PS Audio PS600 Leave on, Turn off or Unplug
Samski, these responses above are valid. The proof lies in the listening.
Is it possible for something to be the best?
"Best" is a very questionable term, because it invites uncertainty, a probably very unfortunate competitiveness, unfortunate for the pocketbook and one's peace of mind and last not least the futile and time consuming attempt to rationalise in obje...
What pets hang out with Audiophiles?
10 year old Dalmatian, comes into the music-room as soon as I sit down to listen and settles at my feet. Prefers analog, hates muddy bass.
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
Data, unthinkingly I posted here too and must now sympathise with you. Thankyou for showing us the dark side of our seemingly innocent banterings. I feel for you and wish you strength and the power to forgive. Please accept my embrace across the o...

Strategies for preserving tube life
If I recall rightly our Albert Porter, leaving his Aesthetics front end on all the time, has reported here, that the deterioration of his NOS tubes within the course of one year was minimal. I can come up with the same message, regarding my Jadis ...
Better magazine, Stereophile or Absolute Sound
I've finally stopped subscribing to both of them. If I need to know something, I can ask and get it here.

Dacostab, thanks for taking up this thread again and for mentioning EM. I think you have a very good point there. Haven't listen to that performance for a long time. Shall do so tonight. Cheers,Detlof
Is it necessary to clean every record?
I tend to be as lazy as I possibly can. However I practice meticulously Sean's mantra, while every record I wish to play, spins in the cleaning machine.
