Why does my vinyl sound so bright? I've got a Blackbird and it is very sensitive to VTA; however, your adjustment and the resulting unsteady sound makes me thing that something happened in the move.Use canned air to blow out the cartridge. Don't put the nozzle too close because the...
Which allround speaker ? I've got the Beethoven Baby Grands and they have realistic midrange and treble energy; however, if you like more than that, then I agree that Sonus Faber is the place to look. For me they have too much "edge" but one person's edge is another's bit...
Guitar amp power on question I just put mine on standby during the day. When I think I'm through for the day I turn it off.If you're playing at low levels, it doesn't really matter a lot, but to get the best tone you need it warmed up for 10 to 20 minutes.Dave
Definition of "redbook" and "Prat" ? Prat is a misnomer, IMHO. It describes the feeling you get from a highly dynamic system with excellent frequency response. The electronics don't significantly change actual ryhthm or timing. However, you get a perception of better rhythm and timin...
OPPO vs BR HD? I agree. You'll always have a use for a universal player and the anti is low. In the next 12 to 18 months there'll be more and better HD alternatives that work with hi rez sampling rates. All the pieces are there, we just need some company to put ...
Novice ears or unrealistic expectations? See this discussion of class D vs. A and AB if you're interested in understand a little more about that particular issue:http://www.audiodesignline.com/howto/177102531
Novice ears or unrealistic expectations? 03-03-08: Cdc said:"DcStep I would agree but he said the Rowland 102 was a digital class "D" amp. Doesn't matter who makes class "D", it's still digital.Disclaimer: I have not personally heard the amp"Actually Class "D" is not "digital", instead i...
Is "audiophile" being overused in the LP listings? I really hadn't noticed that. Are there some particular brands that are particularly abusive of the term "audiophile?"I tend to buy brands that I know, so maybe that's why I haven't noticed. I ventured out into Radioheads "In Rainbows" and was ple...
Novice ears or unrealistic expectations? A MF isn't going to sound any better than a Rowland (one of the best possible amps and a good match for his speakers).Improve the source and get the speakers in the right place.Dave
Novice ears or unrealistic expectations? Nice report. You equipment is indeed too good for regular mp3s, as you've clearly discovered.Positioning the speakers for serious listening will smooth out the both the highs and bass. You really can't avoid that. Anyway, you've made a step in the...
Computer speakers? AudioEngine. Anybody want to buy a Logitech 5.1 system? ;-)
Novice ears or unrealistic expectations? Your biggest problem is speaker placement. Declaring it as "in stone" dooms anything you might do. It sounds like they're slightly too close to the rear wall and perhaps the corners. Usually a move of only 6" to a foot will get you out of the bass...
Integrated for Vienna Acoustics Haydn I can look them all up, but do you happen to have the power ratings into 4 ohms? Generally, you'll want at least a 100 watts into 4 ohms and more won't hurt, along with a relatively high damping factor. All VAs like SS power sections.Dave
Miles Davis "Sketches Of Spain" I'd love a copy. Thanks for the offer.Davedcstep@swbell.net
Review: Analysis Plus Solo Crystal Oval 8 Speaker cable 150-hours into burn-in they're sounding much, much better. After I get up to 300-hours I'll post another update. There's still room for improvement.Dave |
