Comparing VPI Scoutmaster to Pro-ject RM10
02-24-08: Gnugear said:"Call me crazy but I bought a RM-10. I think it's a VERY nice table. Compared to the VPI it sounds a little more laid back and a little warmer. Just what I was looking for."Which cartridge do you have in the Pro-ject?Dave
Comparing VPI Scoutmaster to Pro-ject RM10
Don't confuse VPI's 'frosty' stuff with Pro-ject's 'frosty' stuff. The RM10's platter really works. It's higher mass than the Scoutmaster's and it has magnetic repulsion to offset the mass and lower the spinning friction.Dave
Which headphone amp is technically superior? Help
Styling is mostly it. Pro-ject changed the look of most of their electronics over the last year. There were small technical changes at the same time, but no big substantive change.Dave
On the Fence with Analog Vs. Digital. Need Help
Don't get rid of your CDs. Run parrallel for a while. When I switched to digital in the late 1980s, thank goodness that I kept all my vinyl. I came back seriously to vinyl last year, but I also have a SOTA digital system. I'll probably get a music...
Which headphone amp is technically superior? Help
The Senns are pretty efficient so you probably don't really need the extra power of Amp Two; however, it might later be useful if you bought some less efficient cans like the AKG 701s. With cans you hear every bit of noise, so if I had to make a c...
Comparing VPI Scoutmaster to Pro-ject RM10
I've been using a Pro-ject RM10 with a Sumiko Blackbird cartridge since August of 2007. I find it to be very dynamic and musical. The Blackbird needed about 50 hours to break in (at first it was too clinical), but after that it's been one happy li...
Classical speakers that do violins well??
Way to go. Get some leads and then listen for yourself, that's the way it's done.Dave
hearing imbalance
It's great that you resolved it. I've got close to a 10dB difference and I understand that's quite common. I've found that it's had little impact on my enjoyment of music. What's really interesting is that accupucture has recently been improving it...
Suspended vs. non suspended turntable

Suspended vs. non suspended turntable
02-19-08: Dan_ed said:"Dcstep, that's a test I can trust. I wonder if I can re-create this with my CDP and a recording that I have in both formats."Taking into account that the CD likely has limits as compared to the LP version, you might switch b...

02-19-08: Piedpiper said:"nice test Dcstep! Have you figured out a way to burn SACDs from your Korg?"No, SACD is a controlled format; however, DVD-A has equivalent resolution and that works.I have big ambitions for my Korg, but they're unrealized ...
Suspended vs. non suspended turntable
Oh, you can hear it easily. I isolate my TT in a 100+lb armoire, loaded with probably 50 pounds of CD and spare cables and wires in the bottom and my control amp, universal player and TT in the top. All-in we may be talking about 200 lbs.I've got ...
Suspended vs. non suspended turntable
02-18-08: Dan_ed said:"Mass, yes. Isolation, not so much."Different correct answers to the same physics question. My question is, what happens if you deaden structure-born resonance, but what about airborne vibrations? The arm and cartridge, unless...

Need Audiophile Headphone Rig to Replace Sen HD590
No Swamp, I've never heard the K1000s. A couple of decades ago I had some midline Stax electrostatics that I dearly loved, except I had reliability issues and kept getting static electricity shocks in my ears (not fun). Anyway, I loved the smooth ...
