Rowland Concerto integrated vs Rowland Capri & 102
Guido, I'm hanging on to hear the new integrated replacement for the Concerto. It's like a Capri plus 501s in one box, then I could add the PC1 in front of it.Our man Rod will get all that together for audition in the near future me thinks.BTW, ar...
God, why did I try my first LP = upgrade
I'd also add a phono stage next, then live with it a while. The Pro-ject Tube Box SE is a very good tube pre-amp in the $500 region.Dave
Tube vs Tran
Here's a link about damping factors:See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damping_factorMeasured square waves are not relevant to damping because of the interaction of the speaker and cable is also part of the equation.Dave
Amp suggestions for Revel Salons?

Steam Revisited
X2 for Disc Doctor +steam, as needed. Walgreens is the way to go for the steamer.Working by hand with the DD system, you can focus on the parts of the record that really need extra attention. RCMs just don't do as good a job in that regard, IMHO.Dave
Tube vs Tran
Back to the original question of why would anyone ever buy SS when tube "sound so good". Many speakers benefit from the extremely low impedance at SS amps which causes a high damping factor. Basically the damping factor rates the amps ability to c...
Room or speaker resonance???
That's normal. Placement of the speakers within the room is super critical in the bass region. Since you've got the meter out, move the speakers a foot closer to the wall and note how different the response is.There a nodes that cause the bass to ...
Clarinet concertos anyone?
Stravinsky's "Ebony Concerto"Mozart's fine, but let's dig a little deeper.Dave
Garrard 3000 keep or toss?
I'd get rid of it myself, BUT some people are restoring those and they very nice for a "retro" system. Maybe someone will post a link to a restorer. I looked at one a few months back and it brought back fond memories of my youth. I can understand ...
How effective is anti-static device for LP play?
I use the Zerostat and find it very effective. Dryness aggravates the static situation, but the mere act of cleaning the record pre-play will generate static. I use a carbon fiber brush for the rough clean, to get off any big chunks. I hit it with...
Choice on a $3,000 to $5,000 SS amp

Bi-wired vs Single Termination

Whats with the Watts ??
Thanks for the nice links Rodman. Can you name some "affordable" amps with high damping factors? I'm thinking Bryston is one relatively affordable amp.Dave
Clarinet concertos anyone?
I love the Corigliano. I've got Stanley Drucker performing it with the NY Phil. Unfortunately it's recorded in DBX vinyl and my tape deck with DBX gave up the ghost decades ago. I can play it back, but the dynamics are screwed.Anyway, it's a great...
Whats with the Watts ??
The bass on the DALIs is night and day, depending on the damping factor. See if anyone carries Jeff Rowland research electronics so you can hear how good they can sound, then see if the dealer has a less expensive option.Dave
