Would an upconvertind player be an improvement?
I'm using an Oppo 981HD to upconvert and loving it. Don't know the Toshiba in particular, but they tend to make good equipment. Pioneer also has an upconverting universal that's very good. I watch full HD over cable and then watch upconverted DVDs...
An Audiophile Goal
Bob, I just re-read the thread, looked at your system, looked at you Ducatis (nice indeed) and can't figure this thread out. I'm beginning to think that you're pulling our legs. I think you're exercising your ability to take a silly position and t...
An Audiophile Goal
Analogue Production's 180 gram, 45 rpm version of Hugh Mesekela's "Hope" has close to 40dB of dynamic range. If you set it for its peak at 90dB, lots of it is going to be playing at a very low level (below 60dB).I find that short bursts up above 9...
Best jazz or blues female vocalist ever
I vote for Ella.
Best Towers Under $4,000 / pair
Well, I voted with my wallet for the Vienna Acoustic Beethoven Baby Grands, at $3500, moving from Celestion SL6s. Not only did I gain tremendous impact in the bass but I retained the great imaging of the Celstions. The mids are smooth and articula...
Local audio dealer absolutely essential
It's neat to see someone else having a great experience with a Denver dealer. I used Soundings, just South of Denver in Greenwood Village, just blocks from the site of the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest. Denver is a real audiophile hotbed.I ordered my ...
Trumpet cds like Chinatown
"Glory" sound track and, of course, "The Godfather".
Suspended vs. non suspended turntable
I use a non-suspended Pro-ject RM10. It comes with its own highly effective isolation base. The plinth and platter are high-mass and the bearing has magnetic repulsion to minimize friction caused by the high weight of the platter. It has a very go...
Review: Analysis Plus Solo Crystal Oval 8 Speaker cable
Update:The review above was based on 15' loaner cables from my dealer. They've got several hundred hours on them, so they're totally burned-in. Analysis Plus recommends 300-hours of burn-in.So, how do brand new cables sound? My 8' set came in yest...
Classical speakers that do violins well??
Well, I disagree. I've heard no evidence that my aural memory is not reliable.Based on your premise, almost no one could judge the accuracy of their system.Comparing non-musician's aural memory to mine is like a casual driver comparing his driving...
What headphones will suit my needs?
Head-fi would be a better source than here, IMHO. I've got nice headphones, but they're all several times more than your budget. Since head-fi is aimed at cans and has a much larger population than here, I think you'll get more options there.Dave
Classical speakers that do violins well??
I never said that you couldn't detect the difference between a live instrument and a recorded instrument. I'd get that right 100% of the time in most rooms. The room cues are just too numerous. However, speakers can easily get the timbre right and...
An Audiophile Goal
Exactly Raul. Most audiophiles don't realize how much intermodulation distortion they're introducing in a 2-channel system due to poor speaker placement. When I finally the had my speakers properly set using the Sumiko Master Set method, the volum...
Room Acoustics overkill or worse?
Great, your description is a BIG help. Yes, your room, particularly with 15" subs, can probably use a ton of damping. Have at it. You could make the speaker end almost totally dead and it wouldn't be a problem. As it is, I can't imagine that the s...
Room Acoustics overkill or worse?
Maybe, maybe not. I looked for your Virtual System and you have nothing posted; therefore, we have no idea if you're using dipoles, rear ported, front ported, omnis or whatever. Also, we have no idea of the room size and reflectiveness of the rema...
