Asynchronous USB input 24/96 vs 24/192 192khz music takes up twice the disk space of 96khz music and is still relatively uncommon. That said, don't worry about 192khz, just worry about how good the DAC is at 96khz and how well does it meet your system needs.
Burn in Capacitor phenomena its my understanding that most film capacitors are dielectric- 2 sheets placed side by side, then rolled tightly. Each sheet is one side of the electrical contact. During initial break in the voltage applied finds uneven gaps and a settling in proc...
Conrad Johnson PV-10A mod experiences? Have continued to work on this as the board layout is easy to work with. Since last post I have taken out the 2uf Solens SE capacitors in the phono and pre sections because of "edginess" and replaced them with REL Theta's. In the phono section I h...
tweaking the Dlink III thanks Tgrisham. thinking about it you are correct, no guarantees this will make the DAC better and I do want to be able to sell this easily in the spring after buying a better DAC. The stuff I have modded has always been equipment I have no inten...
what is wrong with my cd player? Check for this simple mechanical problem. The CD player has to clamp the disc to spin it.With age the friction surface on the upper clamp can wear causing the disc to slip/skip during play. Using a paper ring on the CD upper friction surface (donu...

Optimizing the Prima Luna Premium Integrated amp for the Premium integrated the manufacturer tube configuration is all 12AU7's. I have swapped in some Amperex 12AT7's and Jan Phillips 12AX7WA's, in both casesthe Mullard 12AU7's were better in the front sockets. Toying with shelling out for some ...
tweaking the Dlink III Been there, done that with several digital cables. This issue has been present on all. Also done many audiophile cap upgrades on multiple components with the only fiasco being a first attempt on an Oppo DV-970HD died(second attempt succeeded). The...
Hum X for CJ PV-10? Theres a ground screw for the phono but without earth terminal to ground, its a "floating" ground. There are PCB board grounds to chassis at the mounting screws, easy enough to rum a ground wire to one of those from a new IEC plug install.
Hum X for CJ PV-10? If you have the original power cord on the CJ, you need to start there as it has no ground wire. When I replaced mine, 20 years of copper corrosion was pretty nasty and it was basically lamp cord quality. Not hard for a DIY IEC plug update if you ...
New Prima Luna Amp In Distress / Me Too Had a similiar problem when a tube was failing in the pre section of the Prima Luna Premium Integrated, selector knob would pop with any source change, erratic tics during operation. Looking at the bad tube it was apparent that arcing was occurrin...
Help with fatiguing sound in my PC system Realremo, I found that both USB and coax cable mattered but didn't spend a lot to get satisfaction. For USB I tried Audioquest Forrest, Pangea silver over copper and ended up with far better results from Pangea 24 gauge Pure silver.. better high f...
Help with fatiguing sound in my PC system since last post I have acquired a JK MkIII sync USB to SPDIF converter to replace the Vlink. Beyond the order of magnitude improvement in fidelity, its made it enjoyable to listen to PC audio fed direct from DAC to amp and helped me diagnose some ...
Smartphone for the audiophile? I had an HTC Arrive which was basically a Windows phone + Zune. It bettered the iPod touch for fidelity but my son will never let his iPhone 4S out of his hand for me to compare :
where next to go? The JK MKIII arrived yesterday, immediate success. Tight low bass wth substance, authority on details and pitch. |
