Magnepan 1.7 crossover capacitor improvement?
the virtual system "return on the dollar" is mine and up to date. Speaker placement is 3-4 feet away from back wall, but reversed since the magnets on the front panel create a Fresnel lens effect limiting off axis imaging. After mulling it over, t...
Integrated or Amp/Preamp combo for Magnepan 1.7
Some suggestions after having been through a year of breaking in my 1.7's1) start with interconnects and power cables... they can contribute to glare which is commonly what people are reacting to when they say bright. I use the PS Audio jewel powe...
Sound Quality...iPad vs iTouch
Faster processor speed and OS efficiency greatly improve jitter reduction for playback. Power reserves for audio output (bigger battery) improve fidelity for transients.
Magnepan 1.7 too bright, HELP
as of this time I am diagnosing the caps in the MG 1.7 crossover as cheap and causing glare on certain CD's (groups like the Cranberrys and Sheryl Crowe's Globe sessions CD come to mind). So musing on how to replace what looks like Axons and some ...
Conrad Johnson PV-10A mod experiences?
also replaced the stock electrolytics on power supply section with Nichicon fine gold caps but that didn't seem to cause a noticeable change

resistors are all original. Output section of pre and phono has 2 2uf PPE Solens which I replaced some while agowith the SE Solens series
2011 Mac Mini - Is SSD worth it?
I didn't percieve any advantage having the music on an SSD vs HD in a PC setup; i didn't hear any in A/B testing. Having your OS drive be an SSD is where the gain is... less opportunity for jitter due to multitasking. I'd expect same in Mac enviro...
My system's high frequencies hurt my ears
I wouldn't assume its speakers yet. I fixed a like issue with my tube gear by upgrading capacitors at critical points; teflon caps are great for natural sound.
Prima luna Owners - What Speakers are you using
Prima Luna Prologue Premium Integrated with Magnepan 1.7's. Took about 60 days for the pre amp part to break in. Plenty of power for a 20x20 room and no lack of base with appropriate interconnects and power cables.Swapped the EL34's out for KT88's...
Magnepan 1.7 too bright, HELP
jazzdrummer I haven't really detected any difference but on general principle think the jumpers were a bad idea, only put there for systems that were too bright, needing the resistor.
I tried a cheap cartridge and I LIKE IT
tobes... that arm tube looks very much like the Grace 707 design I used to own.... which sucked with Grado. I have a modified Rega 301 now and its ok with a Grado Reference but its still not an optimal arm match. The easy way to tell if you have a...
Magnepan 1.7 too bright, HELP
you actually don't need to buy anything to bypass the magnepan 1.7 tweeter jumper. Just remove the 4 screws holding the plate onto the speaker, take a wrench and remove the nut and wire on the back of the jumper on 1 side, put the nut back on. The...
I tried a cheap cartridge and I LIKE IT
I would agree that TT is key to dynamics, bass and noise floor. However the cartridge is basically akin to the lens of a telescope, it colors and affects resolution of reproduction. My suspicion is that your light weight arm is why the other cartr...
USB cables
no conductor is perfect... unless its a super conductor at close to 0 degrees kelvin. So all of audio science for wires is really about eliminating conductor non linearities at room temperature. The hardest wave to reproduce on a metal conductor i...
Conrad Johnson PV-10A mod experiences?
I hadn't expected immediate improvement using the VCaps, noe the less I got one. While theres still a long break in time ahead, Im finding on every piece that has percussive bass there is much deeper bass. Bass drum is now a thunderous joy to list...
