Your favourite cartridge
Another vote for Benz LP. Having said that, I loved the Koetsu Rosewood Signature I used for 3 years. Not a match for my current system though.
advantage of seperates vs integrated
Time was when there wer'nt that many integrated amps about. Well now, most of the large manufactures provide the option, Pass, CJ, ARC and so on. I went integrated about 6 years ago and am not going back. Under about $12000, I think integrated mak...
What is “warmth” and how do you get it?
I like the contrinuum someone put down between analytical and warm and syrupy, though in truth, you could use other terms at each end. Like many respondents on this thread, I like a sound on the warm side of neutral too. I take it to mean richer h...
Koetsu loading
On my rosewood Signature and Onyx, I set tracking weight at about 1.85 to 1.9 grams, set VTA so that the bottom of the catridge was ruler flat to the weight of vinyl I listen to most, 120gm and set phono stage impedence at 100ohms. I am sure the K...
Help with narrowing down speaker choice
I think all 3 are good, having heard them all at different times. Personally, I didn't like the Coincident, which suprised me, after all the reports on them. I have been looking for fuller range higher sensitivity speakers too and went to RMAF in ...
Best Integrated, period.
I agree with you Keiseeg, about Jadis. It is just that they are so expensive, for what they are. Here in the UK, the DA88S was about £6500, a few years ago, now the importer lists it nearer £12000. It is very good, but not £12000 good. The answer ...
ARC VSi60 vs Ayon Spirit II/III
As always, it comes down to personal preferences and mine don't favour ARC. Nothing wrong with the company, I don't like ARC gear I have heard. I have auditioned the Ayon Spirit 2 and Orion and loved both of them and would happily have bought them...
So what is the best speaker you have ever owned?
Not much concensus, but some darn good speakers in the list. Inevitably, for most people, it is going to be the speaker you have at the moment, otherwise, why did you change it. I have enjoyed a number of speakers listed above, Harbeth, Proac, Dev...
hybrid solid state amps
LSA designs is another. I have heard a few and the Moscode is a lovely amp, but not that cheap. Pathos make few, from the Classic to the TT, which was known as the Twin Towers, the Logos, Inpol, all integrated, right up to the Incontrol monoblocks...
Devore Nines or Zu Presence for large room
I'm with Bjesien. I have auditioned and liked both, but there was something about the Devore 9's that was just right. It sounded natural, not as dynamic as the Zu, but I take that as an edge of colouration. In the end, I went for Daedalus Da-RMas....
Would you pay to listen?
I agree with you wolf garcia, about retailers being more inventive in looking for custom and I think some are. I went to a small 4 room show run by a local retailer recently and it was great. Frequent cycling of kit and music meant I spent 5 hours...
Jadis amps and pre-amps still competitive?
Unfortunately, I do'nt think any new Jadis kit is competitive. Unfortunately, because I would love to own one of their integrated amps. 5 years ago the J88s top of the line integrated was about £6000 in the UK, now it is over £11000, mostly due to...
Christmass
Happy Christmass from across the pond, in the UK. Particularly to those, like me, working today, somebody has to. More particularly to our forces, yours, ours and the rest of NATO's in Afghanistan at the moment. May they all stay safe. One of my s...
Power cords and turntable power supplies
Babybear I would really suggest you read the Positive Feedback report, it does seem to nail the cord very well. I would agree that it sounds slightly softer and darker than other cables I have used. Immediately you have an impression of lack of de...
Have you ever got emotionally attached
I think everyone gets attached to their equipment.... I'll rephrase that, likes to stroke their kit... No that's not right either. Well you know what I mean. That's a large reason why people get so hot under the collar on the forums. If you critic...
