help with a tubed integrated or pre / amp combo
You might just vsqueeze into your price range, second hand, anything by Ayon. There seems to be a house sound, paying more gets more refinement and power. I bought an Ayon Spark recently and it's one of the best integrated amps I have owned, bette...
Your best ''outstanding'' products in last 5 yrs?
I did add the Ayon Spark to the Pathos Inpol2 and as I hoped, equally fine sound but quite different. Two great integrated amps and long term keepers
Piece of Audio gear you regret selling
Lavardin IT, changed it for a Karan K180, not a patch on the Lavardin
Motor Controller ugrade for Raven One Turntable
Only slightly off subject, I changed a flimsy power cord for a lessloss DPFC cord on the Raveen one controller and was very suprised at the improvement. The last thing I expected an upgraded cord to help , is a turntable motor. As someone else has...
Amplifier Weight. A Factor?
Weight seems a deciding factor with tube amps, as others have said. There is simply no substitute for big, high quality output transformers with tube amps. If a tube amp does'nt weigh 50lbs+, it will not have the base to give long term satisfactio...
Coincident Dragon Amplifier
Great speakers I have the DA-RMAs and power requirements are very similar. I prefer integrated amps and would recommend, as someone has mentioned, the Pathos Inpol2. It is only 50watts, but all Class A and I think it goes very well indeed with Dae...
Has anybody compared Lessloss and Shunyata pcs
I am sure I have seen this discussed before, but is the Signature a big step up from the Origonal Lessloss. I have 2 of the Origonal Cables and very good they are. I also have 2 of the Sablon Audio Robusto's, reviewed in Positive Feedback a few mo...
Cartridge Tonearm matching
Moving on to another question. With an Ortofon arm, the other thing to consider, has to be an Ortofon SPU cartridge. Any views on these and which in the line up seems the sweet spot? I do note they are heavy and tend to have a recomended tracking...
Your best ''outstanding'' products in last 5 yrs?
I don't buy hundreds of new items, I still buy too many, I think. The two that stand it and are definitely keepers: Daedalus Audio DA-RMA monitor Speakers Pathos Inpol2 Hybrid integrated amp, though it has had some technical problems. Maybe I will...
When does the law diminishing returns kick in?
I'm with Fatparrot, in believing in a doubling of cost to get a definite audible improvement. That rapidly becomes literally ruinous. So in general, I believe if you are not doubling, you are pretty much moving sideways. BUT, that does'nt mean tha...
Cartridge Tonearm matching
That was'nt the site I remember useing, but it is very useful, thankyou. Perhaps the one I remembered has been taken down.
Looking for "Last" 2 channel speaker system.
I was on a similar hunt for my last speakers and looked at RMAf in 09. I settled on something much cheaper Daedalus Audio DA-RMa. I did'nt find anything less than 3 times as much, which was as good. They are very sensitive 96DB sensitivity, but ca...
Is Upgrading Degrading?
As your system and perhaps your ear, improves, I think you becom less tolerant of modern compressed recordings. That seems to be all you get in mainstream pop recordings these days. Part of this hobby is spreading out your musical interests. As Ku...
used SET amp under $1500 suggestion
I like tubes myself and tend to agree there is a big difference between Push/pull and SET amps. The latter appear to have more, drive and transparency, but can suffer at the frequency extremes. I am not sure SET can be done cheaply, they do depend...
