The Electric Recording Co. ... thoughts on a 300 quid LP
What's 300 quid when you are are making 4 million quid a month??Isn't that the target market?...LoL!
HDCD rescue - it's possible, but man...
One of the reasons that I still keep my old EAD 7000Mk3 DAC is because it decodes HDCD. To my ears, HDCD is a very nice and easily heard improvement over the standard Redbook.I actually believe that HDCD can still compete today with some of the hi...
Sonus Faber Guarneri Recommendations / Help
Shpritz, I have been using the original GH' s for a few years now. I believe them to be the cream of the Guarneri crop. While the new Evolutions may fill in a larger room, I do not think that they have the magic that the GH's bring in spades. The ...
Jadis JA30 Mk2, how great???
Thanks for the update, gwalt. It is nice to read about a purchase in this hobby that gives one a smile. The Jadis JA30Mk2 seemed to me to be the very sweet spot of their line, which is why I started this thread. Most times, the medium powered tube ...
Where is the significant point of diminishing returns on hi-end turntable?
whart, whenever I drive a 356 or similar car on the roads today, I always drive in one mode only----Defensive!! To say it takes a certain mindset is so very true...........but its better than having the vehicle rot away as a trailer queen, lol.
If this sounds like YOUR Turntable story, please share your final chapter
nkonor, IME as one goes up the line with the LP12, only good things happen. The Radikal and the sub chassis upgrades ( Cirkus) are very worthwhile upgrades and IMO bring with them a greater ability for the table to resolve finer detail. An 80's LP1...
Linn lip-12
Neither, the lid should be removed.
Replacement Sonus Faber grille strings?
tboooe, I will be interested in your thoughts about the 2nd sub. I have been told that in a small room...like ours, that two subs can actually be detrimental. This, due to the probability of overloading the room. I have not experimented with two s...
Replacement Sonus Faber grille strings?
The ’silk strings’ of the SF speakers are IMHO....a design flaw...pure and simple. They look nice, but they are truly a problem waiting to happen....as tboooe is now experiencing. Replacing or re-stringing the strings on the stands, or the grille, ...
Is the "standard" Linn Sondek LP-12 surpassed by newer turntable brands and designs??
varyat-----+1noromance, see varyat's reply above. What is the point of comparing a 80's LP12 to a 60's Garrard?? I understand that some people like the sound of an idler drive....that's their preference; however, the sound of the current idler dri...
Is the "standard" Linn Sondek LP-12 surpassed by newer turntable brands and designs??
Another thread wherein the 80's model LP12 is compared to either a current VPI, or ?? ( supply name here) or a 301 or 401 Garrard!Have any of these gents actually heard a CURRENT model LP12??God forbid that be the case, but nonetheless the compari...
Viva, no longer a fan
whart, I am actually talking about non grey market products. The typical vehicle that we see in the states is not a grey market vehicle. The Viva piece in question is, I am assuming, a non-grey market piece. Nonetheless, the definition of 'grey ma...
Viva, no longer a fan
I don’t get the philosophy, or the business model, that supports the idea that a ’professional’ manufacturing company can refuse to support any of its previous year ( or for that matter current year) gear....simply because it was bought from a non...
worst sounding great lps
Anyone who thinks the Black Sabbath LP's are mud, most likely has NOT heard the original UK Vertigo pressings. IMO, these are some of the best rock recordings available. Comparing to the later US reissues is simply doing them an injustice! Persona...
REL high-level connection and McIntosh Autoformers
Not so fast!! The REL high level connector is balanced...IF the amp that it is attached to is also a balanced design, then connecting the cable to the negative terminal might in fact create a ground loop. Are your MA6900's a balanced design? Perha...
