Taking the analog plunge... That's a very good short list you have there! IMHO I think you could quickly surpass the RB300 with some mods to a RB250.
Taking the analog plunge... No worries here! I have nothing against SS and you're right. There are some good SS phono stages out there. From time to time I see this idea thrown out that tubes somehow limit the cartridges you can use and I don't believe it is the tubes as muc...
Taking the analog plunge... TWL,I'm really glad to see he did something about that tie-wrap cartridge mount. I can image that cartridge twisting while it plays. It is a rather inventive setup. 'tunz,You're right on about the heat generation. We have had temps down in the tee...
Taking the analog plunge... Good call Joman. I completely forgot about the P5.Inscrutable, how does a tube phono stage limit one to MM cartridges? Even if a particular unit doesn't have built-in step ups one could always add a decent external step-up.
best cartridge for MMF-7, stock tonearm,below1000 I believe Inscrutable has the best suggestion. The Rega arm is not a drop in replacement by any means as there is too much difference in the spindle to pivot distance. You could look for a Linn-based tonearm to upgrade with, but since you seem to ...
Taking the analog plunge... 'tunz,I did worse than you. I started back into analog just like you 3 years ago. I had zero, zip, nada lp's. I have close to 800 now. There are plenty out there but you will probably pay more to get the stuff in good condition. If you like to tin...
best cartridge for MMF-7, stock tonearm,below1000 I'm not sure if the shelter would be a good match on the Pro-ject arm, not enough effective mass with a cartridge that has fairly low compliance. Not sure about the other two that you mention. Here's one suggestion, there is a guy over on the Asyl...
Taking the analog plunge... FWIW, I used an 834P with my VK-50SE for almost a year. The BAT equipment is so revealing that it will let any well matched phono stage shine through. A good friend of mine has owned his Mitchell for years and loves it. Which ever tables you put o...
Taking the analog plunge... Does your 5i have a phono stage? This is the only piece that you have to worry about matching with your gear. If not you better plan on budgeting for a VK-P10. Even used that will eat a big hole in your 4K. Ofcourse you don't have to stay with BAT...
Happy Thanksgiving Ditto, Thanks to all A'goners! I can't type much now, I'm balancing pie and ice cream on my knee.
Analog Upgrade Suggestions Welcome Wasn't romy banned from here before? I frequent many forums besides just Audiogon and this is behavior from those who have been out-cast is nothing new. You see it all the time. It is obvious that he is back with another moniker.
Who will survive? One last table til I die. Nice table, suttlaw. Congrats! BTW, how do you like your Airy 2? What types of music do you listen to>
Quit vinyl? I feel your pain. Now pack up all that analog garbage and ship it to me. I'll let you know how it sounds later so you'll be glad that you took my advice.Seriously, I assume that your talking preamps here. I agree that most pre's these days do not ...
Rocky return to vinyl INHO, with the equipment you have now the best place to put $500 would be a record cleaning machine or maybe a RB 250. I wouldn't get too crazy until your ready to change something like tables or phono stages, or ...
Must pull trigger-- quick arm help please I second the Incognito RB250. You can get a Mitchell technoweight latter for that arm, an easy 5 minute change. I just bought one of these arms and I'm loving it. |
